Three people will face the ACT Magistrates Court in relation to various offences, including drink and drug driving, following a traffic targeting operation in Greenway yesterday.

About 11.45am (Thursday, 8 August 2024) officers from ACT Road Policing were conducting random breath testing on Athllon Drive, Greenway.

At this time, a 44-year-old woman driving an orange Hyundai Getz was directed to stop by police. She returned a positive reading for alcohol and was subsequently conveyed to Tuggeranong Police Station.

A secondary breath test was conducted, where she returned a breath analysis of 0.256 – more than five times the legal limit.

The driver received an immediate suspension notice, suspending her right to drive in the ACT for 90 days.

About 12.20pm, a 51-year-old man driving a white Holden Commodore underwent a roadside drug screening test, returning a positive result, which was later confirmed at Tuggeranong Police Station.

Police conducted checks on the Holden, which showed the vehicle had not been registered since 2017.

Pending further laboratory testing, the man will also receive an immediate suspension notice.

Both drivers will face the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date in relation to these incidents.

Additionally, a 36-year-old woman driving a silver Holden Cruze will also receive a summons to attend the ACT Magistrates Court in relation to driving unlicenced, driving an unregistered vehicle, and displaying registration plates that were not meant for that vehicle.

Sergeant Travis Mills from ACT Road Policing said driving while impaired is a leading contributing factor in deaths on our roads and other associated road trauma.

“‘Police consider that driving whilst impaired to be a blatant disregard to the safety of other road users and community members,” Sergeant Mills said.

“It is a selfish and senseless act that can have dire ramifications.

“ACT Policing is reminding all drivers of their obligations towards road safety for themselves and others, and that anyone driving under the influence will continue to be targeted.

“Every ACT Police officer can test a driver for impairment.”
