Call for information – Traffic incident – Darwin

The Northern Territory Police Force is seeking public assistance in identifying a vehicle of interest after a road injury occurred in Darwin this morning.

Around 9:20am, the Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre received a report that a motorbike rider was struck by debris that had fallen off a truck on Tiger Brennan Drive.

The maroon flatbed truck was travelling outbound in the vicinity of Hook Road when debris from the truck hit the 34-year-old male rider. The truck failed to stop and left the scene.

The rider was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Volunteer treks 240km to support brigade

Glenlyon member Shaun Gedge has completed a remarkable journey, walking 240 kilometres around the brigade’s response area to raise funds for vital new firefighting equipment.

Shaun set out on his nine-day trek on 18 October, with the aim of covering the response areas of the eight brigades that make up the Glenlyon Group in District 15.  

“I’m originally from the UK, and I did a 160-kilometre walk over there to raise funds for the local Air Ambulance, which is completely charity-based,” Shaun said.  

“When I joined Glenlyon, I asked what sort of things I could do to help, and that’s where the idea for this walk came from.” 

Despite some challenges including an early injury, the firefighter and Junior leader walked an average of 28.5 kilometres a day, camping along the route each night before finishing his solo journey on 26 October. 

His goal was to raise funds for breathing apparatus (BA) units and, eventually, an ultralight tanker – essential equipment that will strengthen Glenlyon’s ability to respond to local emergencies from bushfires to hazardous material incidents and vehicle accidents.  

By the end of his trek, Shaun had surpassed his initial $5,000 target, and donations continued to come in.  

“I actually hit my fundraising goal before the walk, and I was absolutely thrilled about that,” Shaun said. 

“We respond to a wide range of calls across our area. Having the right equipment makes all the difference – not only for our safety but for how effectively we can protect our community.” 

For Shaun, the trek around his district was about more than just distance, it was about giving back. 

“I joined the brigade just over a year ago, and I’ve seen how hard everyone works to keep our community safe,” he said. “This was my way of doing something extra to help out.  

“It was great to walk through the Glenlyon area – not just for the physical challenge, but to get a better feel for the local area especially from a fire risk perspective.  

“My fellow brigade members also joined me for stints along the way to keep me company and bring me supplies so I wasn’t carrying too much. They also checked in with me constantly on our group chat to keep my morale up. 

“When I got up into the higher areas and could look out over the valley – those were the moments that inspired me to keep going.”

Call for information – Alleged domestic violence – Alice Springs

The Northern Territory Police Force is calling for information after an alleged domestic violence assault occurred in Alice Springs yesterday evening.

Around 9:30pm, the assault is alleged to have occurred on Stuart Terrace, near the intersection of Gap Road in The Gap. A number of vehicles are believed to have driven past during, and immediately after, the incident.

Police are appealing for occupants of those vehicles, or anyone who may have been in the vicinity of Stuart Terrace during this time and may have seen an assault occurring to contact police on 131 444. Anyone with dash cam footage or CCTV footage is also urged to contact police. Please quote reference number NTP2500110381.

Charges- Threat with firearm – Palmerston

Police have arrested a 25-year-old male in relation to firearms offences in Malak yesterday afternoon.

Around 4:15pm, the Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre received reports that a male was allegedly threatening a female, believed to be his ex-partner.

It is alleged the male sent multiple messages to the victim in which he threatened her with a firearm.

Police deployed to the victim’s location while other units initiated a search for the alleged offender.

The 25-year-old male was located a short time later in Malak where he was arrested without incident. A firearm was seized from the location.

He has since been charged with Make a threat to kill a person and Use carriage service – Threat to kill.

He is due to face Darwin Local Court today.

Third person charged as murder investigation continues

Thursday, 6 November 2025 – 1:50 pm.

Police have charged a third person as investigations continue into an alleged murder and wounding incident in Salamanca last month.
A 20-year-old man tragically died, and a 23-year-old man was injured in the alleged incident in the Morrison Street car park about 11.45pm on Saturday, 25 October.
Yesterday, the 14-year-old was charged with:

Attempted Wounding
Unlawfully Armed in a Public Place
Criminal Code Assault
Common Assault.

He is scheduled to appear in the Youth Justice Division of the Hobart Magistrates Court on 18 November 2025.
A 17-year-old boy has previously appeared in court charged with murder, wounding and assault in relation to the incident and a 20-year-old man will appear at a later date charged with assault.

Large haul for Northern District police

A man and woman were arrested this morning after four stolen motorbikes, two stolen cars, and a large quantity of drugs were found at a northern suburbs address.

Overnight on Thursday 6 November, a Yamaha motorbike was stolen from outside an Adelaide home. Fortunately, the motorcycle was fitted with GPS tracking which led Northern District patrols to an address in Elizabeth Grove.

Just after 5.30am Thursday morning, officers entered the property where they located the stolen Yamaha, in addition to three other stolen motorcycles.

During a further search, a stolen BMW and Chrysler sedan were also uncovered.

Police further located what is alleged to be a large commercial quantity of GHB (fantasy) inside the home.

A 46-year-old man and 26-year-old woman from Elizabeth Grove were arrested and charged with trafficking a large commercial quantity of a controlled drug. The man was further charged with multiple counts of theft and unlawful possession.

The duo were both refused police bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court in the coming days.

The motorbikes and vehicles were all seized for forensic examination.

Major Crime Detectives conduct cold case search at Mount Gambier

Major Crime Investigation Branch detectives have today, Thursday 6 November commenced a search for the remains of missing Mount Gambier woman Margaret Bernie in the South-East of the state.

Margaret Burnie, who was 34 when she disappeared, was last seen at her home address in Mount Gambier on 23 January 1988.

Her family became concerned for her safety and welfare when she could not be found and failed to contact them for several weeks. Margaret was reported missing by her sister on 10 February 1988.

Police believe Margaret has been murdered.

The search, with the assistance of local police, STAR Group and State Emergency Service volunteers will focus on a property on Burnda Road, Compton.

The property, located several kilometres west of Mt Gambier, is about one sqkm in size. The search is expected to last for two days.

Major Crime Investigation Branch Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke said today’s search for the remains of Margaret follows an ongoing review of the cold case and assessment of all available evidence.

“Detectives have maintained close contact with members of Margaret’s family and they are supportive of the efforts of police to locate Margaret,’’ he said.

“It is a tragedy that Margaret’s family have spent the last 37 years without answers.

“Major Crime Detectives continue to actively investigate all cold case crimes to provide families with the answers they are seeking and bring those responsible to justice.”

Detective Superintendent Fielke said it is likely there are individuals in the Mount Gambier and South-East community who have knowledge of what happened to Margaret.

“We would encourage those people to come forward and speak with police,’’ he said.

UPDATE: Charges – Murder – Timber Creek

The Northern Territory Police Force has now charged a 21-year-old male following a fatal pedestrian strike in Timber Creek on Monday, 3 November 2025.

The male has been charged with one count of murder and has been remanded in custody to face Katherine Local Court 7 November 2025.

Investigations remain ongoing into the circumstances of the related stabbings during the incident. The two victims remain in hospital in a serious but stable condition.
