A new $2.6 million universal‑access fishing platform is set to take shape at Quinns Rocks, boosting recreational fishing opportunities for the community.

The project will be delivered by the City of Wanneroo, supported by a $2m State Government contribution and $626,391 from the City’s 2025/26 budget.

Mayor Linda Aitken said the platform reflected strong demand from the community for accessible coastal facilities.

“Recreational fishing is an important part of life for many local families, and this new platform will ensure everyone, regardless of age or ability, has the opportunity to enjoy it,” Mayor Aitken said.

A community survey was undertaken in 2023, indicating that 97% of respondents supported the installation of a universal fishing platform in Quinns Rocks or Mindarie.

The new platform will extend 17 metres from the groyne beside the Frederick Stubbs carpark and has been carefully designed to ensure it is welcoming and accessible for people of all abilities. A two‑metre‑wide accessible pathway will lead from the carpark directly to the structure, providing safe and barrier‑free entry for wheelchair users, seniors and families.

It will also include solar‑powered lighting, bench seating, safety ladders, and a solar‑powered seawater pump and fish‑cleaning station.

Its location and design were guided by a detailed feasibility study and extensive community and stakeholder consultation, reflecting strong local support for improved fishing infrastructure.

Construction is expected to begin in November, subject to approvals, with the platform set to open in the first half of 2027.
