Eight firearms seized during targeted police search

A man has been charged after police seized eight firearms during a targeted search at a Golden Valley property today.Members of Northern Drugs and Firearms Unit, with the support of members from Central North Division and the Dog Handler Unit, executed a search warrant at the private address on Tuesday (30 June), locating and seizing four illegal pistols – three of which were homemade – four registered firearms, a crossbow, and a large amount of ammunition.A 47-year-old Golden Valley man was subsequently arrested and charged with multiple firearms-related offences including deal in firearms when not the holder of a firearms dealer licence, possess a firearm when not the holder of a firearm licence of the appropriate category, possess, use, sell, or acquire an unregistered firearm, and possess a crossbow.He will appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court in September.Anyone with information about illegal firearms is asked to contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000 or online at crimestopperstas.com.au
