National Science Week is almost here and City of Wanneroo Libraries are hosting a range of free activities designed to inspire curiosity and a love of discovery.
From interactive story times and hands-on workshops for young children to exciting science experiments with Dr Rina Fu and STEM career sessions for high school students, there are opportunities for all ages to get involved.
Whether you’re fascinated by the tiny world of microbes, eager to explore big scientific ideas, or interested in future careers in STEM, there’s something for everyone to enjoy during National Science Week.
Microbes in Actions with Dr Rina Fu
What’s living on your hands, in the soil and all around us? Join Dr Rina to uncover the hidden world of microbes through exciting demonstrations, hands-on investigations and plenty of scientific surprises. Discover how these tiny organisms help shape our world and learn why microbiology is anything but small! Inspired by Dr Rina’s expertise in microbiology and her passion for making invisible science visible to young learners.
Target audience: 8 to 12 years.

Building Our Community: Inside the World of Project Management
Join structural engineer Mark Little as he shares insights into this rewarding local government role, exploring the strategic planning, project delivery, and ongoing management involved in creating and maintaining community infrastructure.

Engineering the Coast: STEM Careers Making Waves in Local Government
Join Chief Coastal Engineer Rory Ellyard for an engaging National Science Week presentation exploring how science and engineering work together to protect and manage our coastlines.
Drawing on real‑world projects and local examples, Rory will share insights into the challenges facing our coastal environments, from erosion and sea‑level rise to sustainable coastal development. These workshops are free and open to all ages.

Little Scientists Workshops with Dr Rina Fu
Let’s spark curiosity and inspire the next generation of scientists! Dr Rina Fu will captivate young minds with a series of fun, hands-on experiments, woven together with engaging songs and stories.
Session 1 – Science Bugs: Little Scientists in action with Dr Rina Fu (SOLD OUT)
10.30am to 11.30am on Saturday 15 August at Clarkson Library.

Session 2 – Meet the famous Mickey Mouse Molecules
In this lively workshop, Dr Rina Fu combines song and hands-on experiments to introduce young learners to the world of molecules through fun, play and discovery. The perfect way to get young children curious about science.
