Four teenage boys have been charged after allegedly stealing several vehicles and attempting to break into homes last month.

On Saturday, 28 September 2024, police allege the four youths drove a stolen Audi sedan to Denman Prospect and attempted to enter two homes before fleeing the scene without gaining entry.

The boys then allegedly drove the Audi to an address in Yarralumla and stole a grey Aston Martin, silver Bentley and a grey Porsche from the home early Sunday morning, abandoning the Audi in Weston.

The three vehicles were captured on CCTV cameras at a petrol station in Holt where the group filled up two vehicles and left without paying.

About 7.50am, officers conducting mobile patrols in Belconnen observed the Aston Martin and Porsche on Southern Cross Drive.

Police attempted to pull the vehicles over but the drivers refused to comply with directions, driving on the wrong side of the road and at excessive speed to evade police.

The vehicles were recovered the next day after being abandoned in Macquarie, Macgregor and Nicholls.

Following an investigation, police executed a search warrant at an address in Macquarie on 3 October 2024 and arrested two boys allegedly involved in the burglary.

The remaining two boys were arrested this morning (Thursday, 10 October 2024) at the same address.

Police also believe the group are responsible for the theft of two other vehicles – a black Audi SQ5 (ACT registration YPJ 66H) stolen from Red Hill on 3 October 2024, and a black BMW X2 (NSW registration EYF 90F) stolen from Sydney on 8 October 2024 – which are yet to be recovered by police.

Anyone who has any information or has seen the vehicles, which may be parked in suburban streets, is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website. Please quote reference number 7862669.

All four have been charged with several offences, including driving a motor vehicle without consent, aggravated burglary, and unlawful possession of stolen property.

Two boys faced the ACT Childrens Court on Friday, 4 October 2024 and the remaining two will face court today (Thursday, 10 October 2024).

Three people have been charged following multiple instances of poor driving behaviour in Tuggeranong over the weekend.

ACT Policing officers also conducted more than 1000 roadside breath tests, with several people caught driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Across the weekend, Rural Patrol officers also caught four drivers speeding in the western fringe of the ACT and two drivers returned positive breath testing results.

General Duties officers attached to Tuggeranong Station made three arrests for road safety incidents.

About 3.30pm on Sunday, (6 October 2024), officers observed a speeding blue Kia Carnival on Ashley Drive in Monash.

The vehicle was followed until it turned into Theodore when police activated their emergency lights and sirens. The man did not stop for police and continued driving to his home.

The 31-year-old man exited the vehicle which was also carrying his partner and four children.

He was subjected to a roadside alcohol screening test which returned a positive result. He was arrested and taken to Tuggeranong Police Station where further testing returned a blood alcohol content of 0.179 grams of alcohol in 210 litres of breath – more than three times the legal limit.

The man was charged with drink driving, had his licence suspended and further charges are expected to be laid.

The second incident occurred about 11:20pm the same day, (Sunday, 6 October 2024) when police were conducting speed checks on Drakeford Drive in Kambah.

A 20-year-old man driving a black Volkswagen Polo was caught by police travelling at 144km/h in an 80km/h zone.

When police stopped the driver, he was found to have a suspended driver’s licence and was an unaccompanied learner driver.

The man was charged with speeding, driving as an unaccompanied learner driver, not displaying L-plates, driving an unregistered vehicle and driving with a suspended licence. His vehicle was also seized.

The third incident occurred about 5:20pm yesterday, (Monday, 7 October 2024) when police observed a blue and black motorcycle turn into Richardson and accelerate rapidly.

The rider continued to accelerate away from police and a short time later in Chisholm, the man lost control of the motorcycle at an intersection and crashed.

Police apprehended the 35-year-old Lyons man, and he was subsequently charged with failing to stop for police, aggravated furious driving, riding unlicenced, riding a motor vehicle without consent and breaching his bail conditions.

The Lyons man faced the ACT Magistrates Court today and the other two men will face court at a later date.

Detective Inspector Mark Steel, Officer in Charge of ACT Road said while most motorists did the right thing over the long weekend, some deliberately made poor choices.

“Their actions were incredibly dangerous to themselves and the community.” Detective Inspector Mark Steel said.

“While the majority of drivers did the right thing on the weekend, it is concerning that we are still seeing people completely ignoring any sort of due care for other members of the community and driving under the influence.”
