Man extradited to ACT following December 2022 stabbing

A 26-year-old man has been extradited from NSW to face court relating to the alleged serious stabbing of a man in December 2022.

Police allege that on the evening of 8 December, 2022 the victim was driven to Uriarra Road, Stromlo and stabbed multiple times. He was left there bleeding heavily.

A passer-by located the victim on Uriarra Road and called emergency services.

Following an investigation, the 26-year-old man was identified as the alleged offender and he was subsequently located imprisoned in NSW. He was released on parole earlier this week and yesterday (Thursday, 4 January 2024) his extradition to the ACT was granted.

He will face one charge of intentionally inflicting grievous bodily harm when he appears in court this morning (Friday, 5 January 2024).

Witnesses sought to Hindmarsh Drive collision

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses or dash-cam footage of a collision between two vehicles on Hindmarsh Drive yesterday morning (Tuesday, 2 January, 2023).

About 11.15am, police and emergency services were called to a collision between a silver Subaru Outback and a grey Mitsubishi Lancer at the intersection of Hindmarsh Drive and Yamba Drive, Garran.

Police believe the Subaru may have been driving erratically on Hindmarsh Drive and Yamba Drive in the lead up to the incident.

Police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have dash-cam footage from the area around the time of the incident.

P-platers have licences suspended during double demerit period

Two P-plater’s have had their licences suspended over the weekend after engaging in dangerous behaviour on the roads.

About 4.45pm on Sunday, 31 December 2023, members from ACT Road Policing observed the driver of a Holden Commodore on their mobile phone.

After stopping the vehicle and speaking to the driver, licence checks identified the 23-year-old Fraser woman as a provisional licence holder.

The driver was issued with an infringement notice for $632 for using a mobile phone while driving. Due to the double demerit period, the driver also accrued 8 demerit points, leading to the provisional licence being suspended.

Shortly after on Sunday afternoon, officers from Road Policing stopped a second P-plate driver on William Hovell Drive who they witnessed driving at 140km/h in a signposted 90km/h zone.

The 18-year-old Yarralumla man was issued with an Immediate Suspension Notice, suspending his right to drive in the ACT for three months, as well as a fine of $1,841.

ACT Policing want to take this opportunity to remind all drivers that road safety is everybody’s responsibility.

Driver distraction and excessive speeding puts drivers, passengers, and other road users at risk and could have tragic consequences for all involved.

Speeding P-plater has licence suspended

A 19-year-old Nicholls man has had his provisional licence suspended for 90 days following an incident yesterday morning.

About 8.50am yesterday (Saturday, 20 January 2024) ACT Road Policing officers were conducting speed enforcement operations on Gungahlin Drive, Franklin.

The officers identified a white BMW M3 travelling at speed and a laser speed measuring device recorded the M3 at 130km/h in the posted 80km/h zone.

The 19-year-old provisional licence holder from Nicholls was stopped by police and spoken to. His licence was immediately suspended for 90 days and he was issued an infringement notice for $1,841.00 and six demerit points.

Police would like to remind drivers to obey the posted speed limits, and that their friends and family will forgive them if they are running late, but not if they never arrive.

Police seeking witnesses to suspicious apartment fire

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses and CCTV footage to an apartment fire in O’Connor on Wednesday (17 January 2024).

About 1.40am, ACT Fire & Rescue responded to reports of an apartment block on Berrigan Crescent on fire. Firefighters extinguished the fire, but the third level of the complex was significantly damaged. Repairs to the complex are estimated to cost millions of dollars.

No injuries were reported and the matter is now under investigation by ACT Policing Major Crime Squad.

Police are seeking any witnesses who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously, or anyone in the area who has CCTV or dashcam footage from around the time of the fire. Two teenagers charged with several offences by Operation TORIC

Two youths will face the ACT Children’s Court today charged with various offences following an investigation by officers from ACT Policing’s Operation TORIC.

On Tuesday, 16 January 2024, police allege a 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy entered a residence in Kambah, producing knives and threatening the homeowner.

Police will also allege the two boys stole an undisclosed amount of drugs, a sum of money, and other items belonging to the homeowner.

Later that same day, the 17-year-old boy allegedly made threats to another person over the phone in relation to the earlier home invasion.

About 1pm yesterday (Thursday, 18 January 2024) police arrested the two boys at a residence in Chisholm.

The 17-year-old boy has been charged with joint commission aggravated robbery, threats via a carriage service, possess offensive weapon with intent, and breach of good behaviour order. The 16-year-old boy has been charged with joint commission aggravated robbery, and possess offensive weapon with intent.

In a separate incident, yesterday (Thursday, 18 January 2024) officers attached to Operation TORIC executed a search warrant at a residence in Ainslie following an investigation into a stolen vehicle from August 2023.

During the search warrant, police located two stolen motor vehicles, two hand-held tasers, knuckle dusters, OC spray, and two gas powered firearm shaped arrow air javelins.

Investigations into this incident are ongoing and charges are expected to be laid at a later date.

Boy to face court over fatal Barton Highway collision

A 14-year-old boy will face the ACT Children’s Court today (Thursday, 18 January 2024) charged in relation to a fatal collision on the Barton Highway.

About 9.15pm Wednesday, 17 January 2024, police allege a gold Toyota Avalon sedan was stolen from a residence in Chisholm.

Later that evening, about 11.50pm, the Avalon was involved in a serious collision with a Toyota Hilux utility at the corner of the Barton Highway and Clarrie Hermes Drive.

A 19-year-old man, who was a passenger in the Avalon, was treated at the scene by ACT Ambulance Service paramedics, however he later died in hospital.

Police allege the 14-year-old boy was driving the Avalon at the time of the collision with the Hilux.

He was arrested and has been charged with culpable driving causing death and drive stolen motor vehicle.

ACT records first road fatality for 2024

The ACT has recorded its first road fatality for 2024 following a two-vehicle collision overnight.

About 11.50pm Wednesday, 17 January 2024, ACT Policing and emergency services were called to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of the Barton Highway and Clarrie Hermes Drive.

Initial investigations indicate a stolen gold Toyota Avalon sedan with four occupants proceeded through a red light and collided with a Toyota Hilux at the intersection.

Emergency services treated the occupants of both vehicles, including two from the Hilux, at the scene.

Two passengers from the stolen vehicle were critically injured, with one requiring removal from the vehicle by emergency services.

The two passengers, a 14-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man, were transported to hospital in a critical condition.

Sadly, the 19-year-old man later died in hospital.

This is the first road fatality in the ACT this year.

ACT Road Policing’s Major Collision Team is conducting an investigation into the collision and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.

The driver of the Avalon, another 14-year-old boy, is currently in police custody and is expected to be charged in relation to the collision.
