Police have seized a shotgun, knives, methamphetamine, and heroin following a search of the black Ford Ranger involved in a pursuit earlier this week.

On Thursday, 10 April 2025, officers executed a search warrant on the vehicle and located a shotgun, ammunition, fireworks, cash, more than a dozen small clip seal bags containing a white crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine, and two bags of a white powder substance believed to be heroin.

The seized items will be subject to forensic examination and further charges are expected to be laid.

The 38-year-old man will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Wednesday, 9 April 2025).

He has been charged with failing to stop for police, aggravated furious driving, aggravated dangerous driving, using a weapon to hinder own detention, drug driving, driving unlicenced and driving while disqualified.

A 38-year-old man has been arrested after jumping into Lake Burley Griffin to evade police following a pursuit.

About 9am this morning (Tuesday, 8 April 2024), ACT Policing was notified of a pursuit by New South Wales Police Force involving a black Ford Ranger after the driver crossed the border on Canberra Avenue in Fyshwick.

The vehicle, which was towing a car trailer with a Toyota Hilux on it, crossed onto the opposite side of the road multiple times and drove on footpaths along the foreshore of Lake Burley Griffin, placing other road users and pedestrians at significant risk.

ACT Policing’s Proactive Policing Team are investigating the incident and requesting anyone with footage of the Ford Ranger towing a Toyota Hilux in Fyshwick, Kingston, and Barton this morning, to come forward.

Two men have been charged after allegedly sexually assaulting a woman known to them over the weekend.

Police allege the men, aged 26 and 29, sexually assaulted the woman at the 29-year-old man’s residence on Saturday.

Following an investigation by the Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Team (SACAT), the two men were arrested at Belconnen Police Station yesterday (Monday, 7 April 2025).

Both men will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Tuesday, 8 April 2025), charged with sexual intercourse without consent.

A 48-year-old man who told police he had consumed two bottles of wine prior to driving from Jerrabomberra to Gungahlin has lost his licence for 90 days.

About 6pm last Friday (4 April 2025), officers from Gungahlin Police Station were conducting patrols when they came across a collision between a blue Toyota Hilux and green Suzuki Jimny on Anthony Rolfe Avenue.

No one was injured as a result of the collision, but police suspected the driver of the Toyota was under the influence of alcohol. The 48-year-old man underwent a roadside alcohol screening test, which indicated a positive result for alcohol.

He was taken to Gungahlin Police Station to undergo a Breath Analysis Test where he recorded a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) of 0.387 – seven times the legal alcohol limit.

The man was issued with an Immediate Suspension Notice, suspending his ACT drivers’ licence for 90 days. He will also be summonsed to face charges of drink driving before the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.

Two teen boys have been arrested following multiple pursuit incidents in a stolen motor vehicle throughout Canberra’s inner north overnight.

Between Thursday night (3 April 2025) and Friday morning (4 April 2025) a white BMW SUV was stolen from a residence in Amaroo.

Throughout the course of Friday afternoon, police received multiple Triple Zero calls in relation to the vehicle driving dangerously. The vehicle was observed by members of the public to be travelling at high speeds, moving through traffic and failing to stop at traffic lights.

About 11:10pm last night, police attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver, a 16-year-old boy, accelerated away on Barton Highway in Crace.

Shortly after, about 11:15pm, police sighted the vehicle again on Ellenborough Avenue in Lyneham. Officers activated their lights and sirens where the vehicle once again failed to stop for police.

About 11:30pm, police successfully deployed a tyre deflation device on the Barton Highway in Crace, directing the driver of the BMW to pull over but he refused to comply.

Shortly after, the BMW came to a stop in Palmerston where the driver and a 14-year-old passenger attempted to flee on foot but were arrested by police.

The 16-year-old boy underwent an oral fluid analysis that returned a positive result for methylamphetamine.

The 16-year-old boy has been charged with three counts of failing to stop for police, three counts of dangerous driving, driving a motor vehicle without consent, driving under the influence of drugs and driving unlicensed.

The 14-year-old was found to have breached a good behaviour order, and he has also been charged with riding in a motor vehicle without consent.

Both boys will face the ACT Children’s Court this morning (5 April 2025).

ACT Policing is seeking the public’s assistance to identify a man following an alleged assault in the City last weekend.

About 4.45pm on Sunday (13 April 2025) two women were walking along East Row in the City bus interchange when one was struck from behind by a man. He allegedly took a flag she was carrying and threw it on the ground before running away.

The man police would like to speak to has dark hair and dark skin. He was wearing a distinctive red hoodie with white lettering on the back, red shorts and white socks with red shoes at the time of the incident.

ACT Policing is seeking public assistance to identify the man and is releasing images from nearby CCTV.

Police are also keen to speak with any witnesses to the incident who have not already come forward.

The Canberra community is being reminded that 3D printed guns and gun parts are illegal.

An incident last week saw ACT Policing officers attend a school after being informed that a staff member had brought a 3D printed handgun to the school. The gun was not shown in a class and the teacher returned home later that day.

Police later executed a search warrant at the teacher’s home, where the firearm was seized as well as the 3D printer used to make the firearm. At this time police believe this incident was a misguided effort to demonstrate the capabilities of 3D printing technology.

Enquiries relating to this matter are continuing.

ACT Policing would like to remind all community members that the creation of firearms or firearm parts using 3D printers or any other equipment is illegal. All items used to create a firearm are also subject to criminal asset confiscation including printers, machines, phones and computers.

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to a collision between a ute and a pedestrian in the Belconnen mall carpark last Sunday.

About 1.00pm last Sunday (6 April 2025) a collision occurred between a black Toyota Hilux utility and a 75-year-old man in the ground floor carpark of Belconnen Mall, off Emu Bank and Joynton Smith Crescent. The man received significant injuries during incident.

While police spoke to the driver and other witnesses at the time, a call is now being made for any further witnesses who may have seen the collision last Sunday to come forward. Police are also seeking any dash-cam footage of the ground floor carpark from the time of the collision.

Four teens aged 14 and 15 have been charged overnight in relation to stolen motor vehicle incidents in Weetangera and Nicholls.

About 11.30pm last night (Sunday, 13 April 2025) police patrolling Weetangera observed a Hyundai Tuscon SUV that had previously been reported as stolen. The vehicle was travelling at high speed on Schumack Street and as it approached Springvale Drive, tyre deflation devices were deployed.

The SUV failed to take the next turn, colliding with a traffic island and sign. A teenage boy fled the vehicle, with police arresting him soon after near Belconnen Way.

The 14-year-old was charged with breach of bail and ride/drive in a motor vehicle without consent.

A 15-year-old located hiding in a front garden near the collision scene was charged with breaching bail

In a second incident at about 3am this morning (Monday, 14 April 2025), police received a call regarding people attempting to enter vehicles in Nicholls. Soon after, police located two youths who matched witness descriptions at the intersection of Temperly Street and Wendy Ey Place. One of the youths possessed a key to a nearby Hyundai Kona that had been reported stolen on Saturday (12 April 2025).

A 14-year-old girl was subsequently charged with breach of bail and ride/drive motor vehicle without consent.

A 14-year-old boy was charged with theft, going equipped for theft, possession of stolen property and ride/drive motor vehicle without consent.

Three of the four teens arrested overnight were on bail for previous similar offences.
