A 26-year-old man has been charged after allegedly committing acts of family violence against his partner over four years.

Police allege between 2020 and 2024, the man punched his partner repeatedly, tackled her to the ground, strangled her, damaged her property, and didn’t allow her to leave the house.

In one incident, it is alleged the man strangled his partner while she was holding an infant.

The incidents were reported to police in March and yesterday (Friday, 18 April 2025), the man was arrested in Latham after attempting to run from police.

He is expected to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court today (Saturday, 19 April 2025), charged with family violence offences, including four counts of aggravated common assault, two counts of choking, suffocating or strangling another person, and two counts of forcible confinement.

ACT Policing has charged five Canberrans with various family violence offences, including assault, sexual assault and property damage, after several incidents over the weekend.

In one incident, a 20-year-old woman was charged after allegedly slapping and kicking her male partner in a Canberra nightclub on Sunday morning (4 May 2025).

Also on Sunday morning, a 70-year-old man was arrested after allegedly sexually assaulting his female partner.

A 23-year-old woman was charged with possessing an offensive weapon with intent after allegedly threatening her partner with garden shears and assaulting him around midday Sunday.

In the other two incidents, a 37-year-old man and a 20-year-old man were charged after allegedly strangling their female partners.

Family violence can present itself in different ways, such as threatening or abusive messages or behaviours, property damage, intimidation and control, and physical violence.

ACT Policing is seeking assistance from the public following a recent theft and property damage incident at the Telstra Tower.

On Thursday (1 May 2025) police received a report of an incident believed to have occurred at the Telstra Tower between 10pm on Saturday 26 April and 2am on Sunday 27 April (2025).

Police attended the building and collected evidence relating to damage and theft of items from the building including:

• Four computers

• Three uninterruptable power supply units

• A computer server and switch

• Two digital projectors

• Multiple keys

• A historic cast iron red post box

Significant damage to the interior of the building was also caused during the incident with initial estimates to replace stolen equipment and to repair the damage totaling approximately $200,000.

Police are seeking any information relating to the incident including the identities of five people who were observed in the area at the time.

ACT Policing is seeking to identify a man involved in an assault in the city last month.

About 3:00am on Friday, 18 April 2025, four men were sitting on a park bench on Lonsdale Street in Braddon, when they were approached by a man unknown to them.

The unknown man struck one of the men in the face before fleeing.

The man is described as of a large build with short dark hair. He was wearing a bright multi-coloured button up shirt, grey shorts, and white shoes at the time of the incident.

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses and assistance to identify three men involved in an aggravated robbery in Ngunnawal last month.

About 2:15am on Monday, 7 April 2025, three men armed with weapons, one with a firearm and two with baseball bats, broke into a home in Ngunnawal and stole a number of items.

During the incident, one occupant was assaulted and was later transported to hospital with minor injuries.

Following extensive enquiries, police are now seeking the public’s assistance to identify the men captured in CCTV footage.

A 22-year-old woman will face court today after allegedly failing to stop for police and causing a collision in Kambah.

About 4pm yesterday (Wednesday, 30 April 2025), police were conducting traffic enforcement along Sulwood Drive when they detected a black Hyundai i30 travelling at 99km/h in an 80km/h zone.

Police directed the driver to stop but they refused and drove away.

A short time later, members of the public alerted police to a collision between the black Hyundai and a maroon Nissan X-Trail on Summerland Circuit.

The two female occupants of the Hyundai fled and the driver of the Nissan was treated at the scene before being transported to hospital.

After speaking with witnesses, police located the two women hiding in front yards of residences on Gallagher Street and Bellingham Crescent.

The 22-year-old driver – who was on bail for other offences – was arrested and charged with offences including failing to stop for police, not stop and give assistance, aggravated reckless driving, and negligent driving.

An 18-year-old woman will face court tomorrow after allegedly threatening a man with a screwdriver.

About 1:13pm today (29 April 2025), police received multiple reports of an altercation between a group of people and tradesmen working in the city.

Police attended City Walk and arrested an 18-year-old woman near the Merry-Go-Round and recovered a screwdriver that will be alleged the woman used to threaten a man known to her and the tradesmen.

No one was physically injured during this incident.

Enquiries into this matter are continuing.

The woman is expected to be charged with multiple offences.

Police are also keen to speak with any witnesses who have not already come forward including anyone with mobile phone footage of the incident.

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses and dash-cam footage of a collision between a car and motorcycle on Wentworth Avenue this morning.

About 10.40am (Tuesday, 29 April 2025), police and emergency services received reports of a collision between a green and black Kawaski Ninja motorcycle and a blue Toyota RAV4 at the intersection of Brisbane Avenue and Wentworth Avenue, Barton.

The 21-year-old male motorcyclist was treated at the scene by ACT Ambulance Service paramedics before being transported to hospital in a serious condition.

The 34-year-old female driver was also transported to hospital with minor injuries.
