ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to dangerous driving in Gungahlin after a 53-year-old man was charged with failing to stop for police last week.

About 7:10pm last Friday (2 May 2025), officers from Gungahlin Station were conducting patrols when they saw a grey Holden Captiva SUV driving dangerously on Horse Park Drive.

Police activated their lights and sirens but the driver of the Holden failed to stop, and continued driving along Horse Park Drive onto Gecko Way in Thorsby.

A short time later, the vehicle mounted the kerb and hit a light pole before coming to a stop. Officers arrested the man and he was taken to Gungahlin Police Station to undergo a Breath Analysis Test where he recorded a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) reading of 0.231 – more than four times the legal limit.

The 53-year-old man was issued with an immediate suspension notice, suspending his licence for 90 days. He will also face the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date charged with multiple driving offences.

Police are seeking witnesses or dash-cam footage of the grey Holden Captiva bearing ACT registration YNG 20L driving dangerously in the Gungahlin area.

Police are also looking for the driver of a black BMW sedan that may have been hit by the Holden on Bettong Avenue near Gecko Way.

Good news Canberra, wanted 21-year-old man Jamie Barry has been located and arrested. He is due to appear before the ACT Magistrates Court tomorrow, charged with family violence offences.

Thanks Canberra, Mr Smith-Benzie has been located and arrested. He is due to face the ACT Magistrates Court tomorrow, charged with contravening a family violence order and using a carriage service to harass.

ACT Policing is urgently seeking the public’s assistance to locate wanted men, 21-year-old Jamie Barry and 29-year-old Elliot Smith-Benzie.

Both men are wanted in relation to separate family violence incidents.

Mr Barry is described as Caucasian in appearance, with a thin build, short blonde hair and blue eyes.

Mr Smith-Benzie is described as Pacific Islander in appearance, about 175cm (5’9”) tall, with a slim build, short dark brown hair and brown eyes.

Members of the public are urged not to approach Mr Barry or Mr Smith-Benzie, but to contact ACT Policing Operations on 131 444 immediately to report any information regarding their whereabouts.

ACT Policing is seeking to identify multiple people following a brawl that happened in the City last month.

About 3.05am on the morning of Sunday, 27 April 2025, multiple men and women were involved in a brawl in Verity Lane in the City.

ACT Policing is seeking those involved (or anyone who can identify those involved) to come forward.

ACT Policing officers have caught a woman twice overnight for drink driving.

About 10:40pm last night (Saturday, 17 May 2025), officers from Gungahlin Police Station were conducting Random Breath Testing on Gundaroo Drive in Crace.

Police stopped a 34-year-old woman who was subject to a roadside breath test which was positive for alcohol.

The woman was transported to Gunghalin Police Station, where she returned a breath analysis of 0.240. She was issued an immediate suspension notice, suspending her right to drive in the ACT for 90 days.

About 12:40am (Sunday, 18 May 2025), the same officers observed the woman walking in the direction towards her vehicle.

A short time later police saw the vehicle being driven on Gundaroo Drive. Police stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as the same woman from before.

Police subjected the woman to another roadside breath test, which was positive for alcohol. She was taken to City Police Station, where she returned a breath analysis of 0.191.

The 34-year-old woman was arrested by police and will face the ACT Magistrates Court on 16 June 2025. She has been charged with two counts of drink driving and driving with a suspended licence.

Another four drivers were caught drink driving by Gungahlin Police Station officers during the night.

ACT Policing is disappointed to see this on the last day of National Road Safety Week 2025.

Police have caught 113 impaired drivers following a month of action targeting drink and drug driving in the ACT.

In April, ACT Policing conducted more than 20,500 random breath tests and roadside drug tests.

Impaired driving is one of the fatal five driving behaviours – the major causes of injury and death on our roads.

Among the people caught was a 33-year-old man who was observed running a red light shortly before midnight on 14 April. He was stopped and subjected to a breath analysis at Belconnen Police Station, which returned a result of 0.179.

When he was spoken to by police, the man reportedly said it wasn’t a big deal because he didn’t hit anyone.

An 18-year-old man who told police he had drank a bottle of wine at his house before driving with a passenger in the car recorded a blood alcohol concentration of 0.149 and a 51-year-old man who hit a parked car in Theodore and returned a result of 0.170 were also among the drivers caught in April.

In Australia, almost one in three recorded fatal collisions involves a driver with alcohol or drugs in their system.

Detective acting Superintendent Mark Steel said it was still disappointing that in 2025, police were having to remind the community not to drive while impaired.

“It is especially disappointing to have to say this during National Road Safety Week. People are continuing to place themselves and others at significant risk,” Det. A/Supt Steel said.

“If you drive while impaired by alcohol or drugs, you significantly increase the risk of causing a collision and seriously injuring or killing yourself or someone else.”

Two men will face court today after allegedly claiming to be police during a home invasion in Mawson last year.

Police allege the men, along with two other offenders, forced their way into a home in July 2024 while claiming they were police officers conducting a search warrant.

The group threatened the occupant with a firearm and other weapons before assaulting him, leaving him with serious injuries that required hospitalisation.

Police believe the man was mistakenly targeted by the group and they fled the scene in a stolen white Toyota HiLux and two other vehicles.

Following an investigation by ACT Policing’s Criminal Investigation team, a 37-year-old Rivett man and a 47-year-old Googong man were both arrested yesterday afternoon (Tuesday, 13 May 2025).

Both men have been charged with joint commission aggravated burglary – intent to commit theft, joint commission aggravated robbery, joint commission assault occasioning actual bodily harm, impersonate a Territory public official, joint commission minor theft and joint commission property damage.

The 47-year-old has also been charged with breach of parole.

The 37-year-old has also been charged with knife possession.

Investigations into the identities of the remaining two offenders are ongoing and anyone with information that could assist police is urged to come forward.

ACT Policing is seeking to identify a motorcycle rider and passenger involved in fail to stop incidents last week.

About 6:15pm on Wednesday (7 May 2025), Road Policing officers conducted a traffic stop on a red Ducati motorcycle with no registration plate on Commonwealth Avenue in Yarralumla.

After initially stopping for police, the rider and pillion passenger rode off at speed and were last seen riding dangerously on Commonwealth Avenue bridge.

Then at about 11:45pm on Saturday night (10 May 2025), Road Policing officers observed the same motorcycle exit Livingston Avenue in Kambah.

Police attempted a traffic stop while on Melrose Drive in Phillip where the rider again failed to stop for police and continued riding dangerously as they fled.

ACT Policing is today releasing images to assist in identifying the rider and passenger involved in the fail to stop incidents. The motorcycle is a red Ducati road bike.

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses or dash-cam footage of a collision between a car and motorcycle on Tillyard Drive last week.

About 9pm (Wednesday, 7 May 2025), police and emergency services received reports of a collision between a black Honda CBR motorcycle and a silver Holden Commodore VE sedan at the intersection of Tillyard Drive and Kerrigan Street in Fraser.

The driver of the Commodore sedan failed to stop and exchange details with the motorcycle rider.

The 19-year-old male motorcyclist was treated at the scene by ACT Ambulance Service paramedics before being transported to hospital with minor injuries.

Police are seeking witnesses or dash-cam footage of the silver Holden Commodore VE that may have had ACT registration YHL 33G.

Police later located the Commodore abandoned in Charnwood, it was subsequently seized for forensic examination.

Officers are investigating the circumstances of the collision and urging anyone who witnessed or has dash-cam footage of the incident or the silver Commodore in the West Belconnen District on Wednesday night to contact Crime Stoppers via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.
