A 23 year-old Taylor man, on a suspended licence, has been charged following a single vehicle collision in Bruce.

At around 11:45 am yesterday (Thursday 5 June) police were travelling along Gunghalin Drive when they came across a single vehicle collision.

Police allege the driver of a gold coloured Toyota Landcruiser was travelling north on Gunghalin Drive when they lost control of the vehicle causing it to flip over the barrier on the median strip, coming to a stop in the southbound lanes.

ACT Ambulance Service attended and transported a female passenger to hospital for a medical assessment.

The driver of the vehicle was subject to a roadside alcohol and drug screening test where police allege he returned a positive result for the presence of multiple drugs including methylamphetamine and cocaine.

He was arrested at the scene and charged with negligent driving, drug driving and driving while suspended. He was served a Court Attendance Notice to face court at a later date.

Officer in Charge of Road Policing Detective Inspector Mark Steel said this was another stark reminder of the dangerous consequences of driving while impaired.

“It is pure luck that no one was killed or seriously injured as a result of this collision yesterday,” Detective Inspector Steel said.

“Driving while impaired seriously affects your ability to have proper control over your vehicle and significantly increases the risk of a collision.

“There is zero tolerance for impaired driving on our roads, and we will continue to target drink and drug drivers and remove them for our roads to keep the community safe.”

Police are also reminding drivers that Double Demerits are now in effect for the King’s Birthday long weekend and will be in place until 11.59pm Monday 9 June.

Anyone who witnessed or has dash-cam footage of the incident on Gungahlin Drive is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, via the Crime Stoppers ACT website. Please quote reference number 8067862. Information can be provided anonymously.

Police call for illegal firearms to be turned in

Source: ACT Police

Last update: Wednesday, 4 June 2025 3:09pm

Original publication: Wednesday, 4 June 2025 3:09pm

ACT Policing is urging the community to hand in illegal firearms after thousands of firearms and firearm parts have been seized by police.

So far this year police have seized more than 2,500 firearms and firearm-related parts, including homemade firearms, 3D printed weapons and gel blasters.

Seized weapons include a homemade firearm that was located at a Lyneham property in March 2025.

Police would like to remind the community that people are able to hand in unwanted and unregistered firearms under the permanent National Firearms Amnesty.

Detective Acting Superintendent Matt Sprague said there were no good reasons for homemade, illegal or unregistered firearms to be in our community.

“We have seen serious injuries this year due to firearms being in our community,” Det. A/Supt Matt Sprague said.

“Unregistered and illegal weapons make it harder for police to investigate serious crimes such as aggravated burglaries, assaults, threats of violence and homicides.”

Under the permanent national amnesty, you can surrender firearms, parts and ammunition, to police and not face prosecution. By removing these weapons from the community, we can prevent them from being used for criminal activity.
