The NT Police Force is calling for witnesses in relation to domestic violence related physical and sexual assault offences that occurred in Nightcliff yesterday afternoon.

Around 2:30pm on Tuesday 23 December, the Joint Emergency Services Communications Centre received reports that a male was allegedly physically and sexually assaulting a female in the common area of a unit complex in Litchfield Court.

General duties police attended and arrested a 40-year-old male. It was established that the male was known to the female victim. The male has been charged with aggravated assault, gross indecency without consent and engaging in conduct that contravenes a domestic violence order. He has been remanded in custody to appear in the Darwin Local Court on Monday 29 December 2025.

Several persons were observed walking through Litchfield Court at the time of the male’s alleged offending. Investigators from the Northern Domestic Violence Unit area appealing to anyone who was in Litchfield Court around 2:30pm on Tuesday 23 December to contact police on 131 444 and quote reference NTP2500126822.

Bridgewater Police target dangerous driving

Bridgewater Police have launched the first of several traffic operations to reduce dangerous driving during the Christmas and New Year period as part of Operation Safe Arrival.These operations focus on the leading causes of fatal and serious crashes, speeding, impairment (alcohol/drugs), distraction (mobile phones), fatigue, and failing to wear a seatbelt.The first operation in the New Norfolk area resulted in:• 110+ random breath tests• 12 infringement notices• One suspended driver detected• Two trail bikes seized for hooning and evading offencesPolice thank members of the public who have provided dash cam footage, which has led to follow-up investigations and infringements.Operations will continue in coming weeks to keep roads safe. Charges laid over Devonport burglaries

A man and two youths from George Town have been charged with burglary, motor vehicle theft, fraud and related offences following an investigation by the Western Criminal Investigation Branch.Detective Inspector Michelle Elmer said several burglaries in the Devonport area were reported to police last weekend, and investigators followed a specific line of inquiry to identify the people responsible.“Police will allege the trio committed the burglaries before stealing a motor vehicle and driving to Launceston, where they then committed fraud offences using stolen bank cards,” she said.The 23-year-old man and two 16-year-olds were arrested in George Town and have been charged with several offences. The Northern Territory Police Force has arrested a 17-year-old male after he threatened staff at two stores in Alice Springs earlier today.

Around 9:50am, the Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre received reports that a male offender had threatened staff members at two stores in the Alice Springs CBD. It is alleged he entered one store in a shopping centre on Hartley Street and made threats to assault a female employee aged in her 60s, before security intervened and asked him to leave.

The offender allegedly attended a second store located on the corner of Bath Street and Gregory Terrace and threatened a male employee aged in his 50s with an edged weapon before leaving.

Police responded and the 17-year-old was located and arrested a short time later by Operation Ludlow II members.

He remains in police custody with charges expected to follow.

The Northern Territory Police Force has arrested a 30-year-old male in relation to a domestic violence related aggravated assault that occurred in Tennant Creek last night.

At around 10:55pm, the Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre received a report that an adult female had been assaulted by a male believed to be known to her. It is alleged the male was armed with an edged weapon and stabbed the victim causing serious but non-life-threatening injuries to her head and face.

Police attended and conveyed to victim to hospital.

The 30-year-old offender was arrested at the scene and remains in police custody with charges expected to follow.

A 52-year-old female police officer has been issued a Notice to Appear for Aggravated assault.

The woman is alleged to have assaulted another woman, who was known to her, on 4 December 2025 at a residence in Alice Springs.

The officer was not on duty at the time of the offence.

The officer is currently on paid leave and is scheduled to appear before the Alice Springs Local Court on 5 February 2026.

The matter remains under investigation. Due to the case being before the courts, no additional information will be provided at this time.

Two Tasmanian men charged with drug trafficking offences

Two Tasmanian men face serious drug trafficking charges as part of an ongoing investigation into the seizure of 7.5kg of cocaine and $320,000 in cash by the Tasmania Joint Organised Crime Task Force.
The quantity of cocaine seized in southern Tasmania in mid-September equates to a potential 7,500 street deals.
A 32-year-old man from Forcett was arrested and detained for court last week and a 35-year-old man from Bridgewater was arrested, charged and detained for court yesterday and was bailed to appear again in January 2026 in the Hobart Magistrates Court.
Both men have been charged with trafficking in a controlled substance, in addition to dealing in the proceeds of crime.
The Tasmania Joint Organised Crime Task Force (Tas JOCTF) comprises members from Tasmania Police, Australian Federal Police (AFP) and Australian Border Force (ABF).
These two arrests build on multiple investigations in recent months by both the JOCTF and Tasmania Police Drug and Firearm units, which resulted in significant seizures of illicit drugs throughout the state and multiple charges of drug trafficking.
Detective Inspector Troy Morrisby, of the Serious Organised Crime Unit, said the recent charges reflected the determined approach agencies took in combatting drugs in the community.
“During recent months, there have been several people charged throughout the state and interstate with significant instances of drug trafficking within Tasmania,” Detective Inspector Morrisby said.
“These investigations have been conducted by both drug and firearm investigation units within Tasmania Police, as well as the joint task force, run with our Commonwealth partners, the AFP and ABF. These results reflect a significant commitment from all agencies in combating drugs in our community and disrupting criminal activities.
“While over the past 12 months we have seized record amounts of drugs and cash within Tasmania, we understand and know drugs are still in the community and know the harm they cause. We will continue to target those responsible for bringing drugs into our state.”
AFP Detective Acting Sergeant Dannii Campbell said the JOCTF’s goal was to prevent organised crime syndicates trafficking illicit drugs in Tasmania and disrupt their supply chains across the country.
“These criminals cause untold pain and suffering when they bring illicit drugs into our community,” Det A/Sgt Campbell said.
“The TAS JOCTF is committed to keeping our communities safe and we are working tirelessly to disrupt criminals who are preying on people to satisfy their own financial greed.
“The combined resources of the JOCTF should send a warning to organised crime networks that we are unwavering in our determination to stop them exploiting our communities and nowhere is safe for them to hide. We will take your drugs and dismantle your operations.”

Police investigate targeted incident in Old Beach

Police are investigating a targeted incident in Old Beach overnight where two offenders reportedly broke into a residence and stole about $10,000 worth of Louis Vuitton items.Police were called to the scene in Fouche Avenue about 1.20am after a report of two offenders, armed with a machete and what is believed to be a firearm, breaking into a house and forcing the occupant to open the safe.Investigators believe the offenders attended the attended the scene in a VR or VS model Holden Commodore sedan with mag wheels.Police located the vehicle completed destroyed by fire about 1.45am in Tea Tree Road, Tea Tree.Detectives believe the incident was targeted and are calling on people with CCTV or dash cam footage, captured between 1am in Old Beach area and 1.45am in the Tea Tree area of a VR or VS model Holden Commodore – or anyone acting suspiciously – to come forward.Police can be contacted on 131444 or report to Crime Stoppers on 1800333000 or crimestopperstas.com.au.
