Northern Territory Police are investigating the death of a 17-year-old female who was found unconscious at a residence in Galiwinku this morning.

Shortly after 11am, police received a report that the female was unconscious. Local police, assisted by staff from the local health clinic, attended the scene, where she was declared deceased.

A 34-year-old man has since been arrested, with detectives from the Serious Crime Section continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.

Northern Territory Police have arrested two youths after a stolen vehicle crashed in Katherine on Friday afternoon.

At around 2:20pm, police received reports that a white Toyota Prado had been stolen from a residence on Mott Crescent.

It is alleged a male youth entered the vehicle and drove it from the property by crashing through a metal gate.

A short time later, the allegedly stolen vehicle was sighted travelling outbound on Victoria Highway, where it allegedly swerved towards a police vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.

At the intersection of Bicentennial Road and Victoria Highway, the driver allegedly attempted to overtake another vehicle before losing control. The vehicle crossed onto the incorrect side of the road and collided with a tree.

Police attended the scene and arrested two male youths, aged 12 and 14.

St John Ambulance treated both youths at the scene before the 12-year-old was taken to hospital with a broken leg.

A 14-year-old driver was charged with multiple driving offences.

Investigations remain ongoing.

Northern Territory Police have charged three people following an investigation into the alleged supply of drugs in Katherine.

During a combined operation over the weekend, with the Northern Substance Abuse Intelligence Desk and Dog Operations Unit, police allegedly observed drug transactions taking place from the rear fence of a residence on Gregory Court, Katherine East.

Police later intercepted several people who had allegedly purchased drugs and conducted searches under section 120C of the Police Administration Act 1978. A quantity of cannabis was allegedly located, including on a 15-year-old male.

Police executed a search warrant at the Gregory Court residence, arresting three alleged offenders.

During the search, police seized:

• Approximately 300 grams of cannabis, packaged into one-gram zip-lock bags and ounce bags;
• $4,030 in cash;
• Digital scales;
• Four mobile phones; and
• Other items consistent with drug supply.

All three, aged 21, 40 and 46-years-old, have been charged with:

• Supply of a dangerous drug to a child – less than commercial quantity;
• Supply of a dangerous drug – less than commercial quantity;
• Possessing a dangerous drug – traffickable quantity; and
• Receiving or possessing tainted property.

Detective Senior Sergeant Alan Green said targeting those who supply drugs within the community, particularly to young people, remains a priority for police.

“We will continue to target those who profit from supplying dangerous drugs in our communities. “

Police bail was refused for all three alleged offenders, who are expected to appear before the Katherine Local Court today.

These treaties represent one of the most significant endeavours Australia has undertaken with any country. They will transform Australia and Fiji’s relationship, underpinning the region’s prosperity, security and resilience for generations to come.

The Vuvale Union sets out ambitious commitments across the breadth of our relationship, and will deepen integration between our security, economies and people.

The Ocean of Peace Alliance — a mutual defence treaty — commits Australia and Fiji to come to the other’s aid at times of greatest need.

It is Fiji’s first and Australia’s fourth alliance, building on our longstanding history of standing together to support one another and the region’s security. 

These are the first treaties to give practical effect to the Blue Pacific Ocean of Peace Declaration. They will build the Pacific’s capability to tackle security challenges affecting the whole region, including transnational crime and climate change.

In Suva, the Prime Minister was awarded with an Honorary Companion of the Order of Fiji. As Fiji’s highest civilian honour, it recognises the Prime Minister’s contribution to Fiji–Australia relations and Pacific regional security.

The Prime Minister will also launch the Pacific Australia Skills program in Fiji and open the Vuvale Skills Hub, a refurbished trades facility. As core pillars of Australia’s support to Fiji under the Vuvale Union, these initiatives will uplift education and skills in Fiji to drive future economic growth.

Wyndham Vale Fire Brigade has celebrated the opening of their brand-new fire station over the weekend in their 15th year of servicing their local community.

Eager brigade members gathered alongside CFA senior leaders at the new site on Armstrong Road in Manor Lakes on Saturday (4 July), including Chief Officer Jason Heffernan AFSM, CEO Greg Leach AFSM and Deputy Chief Officer North West Region Trevor Weston. 

A brigade parade, led by ex-Captain Francis Ludeman officially opened proceedings, before Wyndham’s 1st Lieutenant Max Blaik closed out the event unveiling the naming of the Wyndham Vale Tanker after Francis for his service.

The new site replaces the brigade’s former station on Ballan Road and provides volunteers with a modern, fit-for-purpose base to support their emergency response now and into the future.

Wyndham Vale Fire Brigade Captain Andrew Ludeman said after operating from a two-bay station the last 15 years, the new station will significantly benefit the brigade and community.

“For us, having the facilities to train new and current members with areas to clean up when we return back from a call is a great opportunity and a welcomed boost for brigade morale,” Andrew said.

The new facility includes three motor bays, a four-bay external shed, a communications area and multipurpose room. A four-desk office space has also been included, along with dedicated spaces for equipment maintenance, training and operational readiness.

The space will support 59 members, including 35 operational firefighters who have attended major incidents such as the 2009 and 2019-20 bushfires on top of local motor vehicle incidents and fires.

“It gives us the ability to grow, which is probably the biggest thing for our brigade, as we’re only a couple of calls short of 600 call outs over the last financial year,” Andrew said.

“We’ve got 10 new recruits doing our general firefighter course at the moment which is really promising, and now that we have more space we can start to get more people in and get them out on the truck.”

CFA Deputy Chief Officer North West Region Trevor Weston said the new station will help support the brigade’s growing operational needs as the local community continues to expand.

“We have seen considerable residential growth in Wyndham Vale and this new station will help ensure our volunteers have the facilities they need to continue protecting local residents for years to come,” Trevor said.

“This site is a welcomed change for the brigade and will be a terrific asset to allow them to continue doing what they do best – protecting lives and property.

“The new station marks an exciting new chapter for the brigade.”

CFA District 14 Acting Assistant Chief Fire Officer Sean Kennedy joined on site to mark the occasion, alongside local community members and neighbouring brigade members.

Later in the night, the brigade marked their 15-year anniversary with current and former brigade members at a dinner held at the new station.

Northern Territory Police maintained a strong, high-visibility presence throughout the 2026 Alice Springs Show, helping ensure one of Central Australia’s largest community events remained safe and enjoyable for thousands of attendees.

Across the two-day event, members from the Community Safety Engagement Team, supported by specialist police resources including the Alice Springs Drone Unit, Strike Force Viper and Mounted Unit, conducted proactive patrols, responded to incidents and engaged with showgoers.

Throughout the operation, police responded to 32 disturbance-related incidents within the showgrounds and removed 60 people for anti-social behaviour, including a number of intoxicated patrons.

Officers also conducted 360 wand searches, resulting in the seizure of two knives, a broken pair of scissors that had been modified into a weapon, multiple medical scissors and 10 fireworks before they could be brought into the event.

Several arrests were made during the operation, including:

• One adult for fighting in public;
• One 16-year-old for possessing a controlled weapon; and
• One man for breaching a Domestic Violence Order.

As crowds left the showgrounds, officers continued patrols throughout Alice Springs, responding to a further nine large disturbances and undertaking 38 targeted patrols to prevent further incidents.

Acting Assistant Commissioner James Gray-Spence said it was great to have police out amongst the community having a highly visible policing presence.

“While we dealt with a number of incidents, our officers intervened early, removed those engaging in anti-social behaviour and seized weapons before they could be used.

“The support of our specialist units, including the Drone Unit, Mounted Unit and frontline officers, allowed us to respond quickly to incidents and prevent situations from escalating.

“I’d also like to thank the vast majority of attendees who came to enjoy the show responsibly and worked with police to help make the event a success.

“The Tennant Creek Show is on this weekend, and the community can expect to see a similar high-visibility police presence. Our officers will once again be out in force, working alongside event organisers to ensure everyone can enjoy the event safely.”

Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) is set to start flowing at Brisbane Airport, with the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) marking a key milestone in building Australia’s low emission aviation industry. 

Through ARENA funding, Viva Energy Australia has recently completed refurbishing a storage tank at its Pinkenba Terminal which is now able to store, blend and supply sustainable aviation fuel to Brisbane Airport. 

ARENA CEO Darren Miller said this highlights progress in building the supply chains needed to decarbonise aviation. 

“Aviation is one of the hardest sectors to decarbonise and sustainable aviation fuel will play a critical role in reducing emissions using today’s aircraft and infrastructure,” Mr Miller said.  

“This project shows how we can start supplying SAF through existing fuel systems, while building the foundations for a domestic industry in Australia.” 

The project will supply SAF to aircraft at Brisbane Airport and trial a “book and claim” system, allowing airlines and corporate customers to purchase, track and account for the emissions reductions associated with the SAF supplied to the airport. 

Alongside this milestone, ARENA is continuing to support a pipeline of projects to accelerate the development of a domestic SAF industry. 

This includes $3.15 million under the Sustainable Aviation Fuel Funding Initiative for Wildfire Energy to pilot the integration of its MIHG technology with methanol synthesis to produce methanol and undertake a feasibility study to assess a Queensland facility that would convert waste into SAF. 

By backing projects across the supply chain, from fuel production to distribution and use, ARENA is helping to accelerate the transition to lower emissions aviation in Australia. 

With the newly announced funding, ARENA has now provided $36.7 million in funding towards six projects as part of its Sustainable Aviation Fuel Funding Initiative. ARENA is also administering the Future Made in Australia Innovation Fund, including its low-carbon liquid fuels funding stream with $250 million in funding available to support the development of the industry.

Northern Territory Police are investigating a domestic violence incident after a woman was allegedly seriously assaulted in Alice Springs on Sunday morning.

Police were called to a residence on Kurrajong Drive shortly after 7:30am following reports of a disturbance.

It is alleged a man seriously assaulted his partner, striking her multiple times with a bat before fleeing the scene.

St John Ambulance attended the scene, and the 33-year-old woman was taken to hospital with multiple injuries.

Police are continuing to investigate and are searching for the alleged offender.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed a man walking along Kurrajong Drive shortly after 7:30am on Sunday, or who has dash-cam from the area at that time, to contact police on 131 444 and quote reference number NTP2600064515.
