Arrests – Riotous behaviour – Alice Springs

Five people have been arrested in relation to riotous behaviour that occurred in Alice Springs on Thursday night.

A service station on Bagot Street, The Gap and a supermarket on Gap Road, The Gap were subject to riotous behaviour and aggravated burglaries which caused sustained significant damages and property loss estimated at a total of $105,000 stolen and $80,000 in damages.

Following a review into CCTV and media outlet footage, five people aged 18, 26, 34, 46 and 49 have all been arrested and remain in custody with charges expected to follow.

Further offenders have been identified, and multiple arrests are expected to be made in coming days.

High range drink driver intercepted

Sunday, 3 May 2026 – 7:31 am.

A 43 year old international driver from Canada has been charged after being detected drink driving over 3 times the legal limit.
Police intercepted a Silver Suzuki Swift on the Tasman Highway at Cambridge last night after receiving a call from a member of the public that the driver was possibly driving under the influence.
Police located the vehicle and intercepted the 43 year old female driver who was found to be in Tasmania on holiday from Canada, driving on her international licence.
She was issued a roadside breath test, returning a positive alcohol reading and was conveyed to Bellerive Police Station for further testing.
After further breath analysis testing the female driver returned a reading of 0.163- more than 3 times the legal limit.
She was formally charged with driving a motor vehicle whilst exceeding the prescribed alcohol limit and had her licence disqualified for a period of 12 months.
Police would like to thank the member of the public who called this driver and her driving manner in.

Charges – Attempted arson – Alice Springs

Northern Territory Police have charged a woman after a police vehicle was set alight during unrest in Alice Springs on Thursday night.

About 9:30pm, a large group gathered at Alice Springs Hospital, where disorderly and riotous behaviour occurred.

It is alleged that about 10:40pm, the woman used a lighter and dried grass to start a fire beneath a Southern Traffic Operations vehicle.

Police observed the incident and moved in immediately, arresting the woman at the scene. The fire was quickly extinguished before it could spread further.

Despite this, the vehicle sustained about $20,000 damage as the unrest continued.

The woman has been charged with one count of attempt arson and one count of taking part in a riot.

She remains in custody and is expected to face court next week.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Lower Light Dump Fire

CFS is responding to a dump fire at the Integrated Waste Services at Lower Light in the Adelaide Plains.

CFS volunteers on 4 fire trucks, supported by landowners and heavy machinery, attended the large green waste dump fire this morning. Firefighters successfully protected two processing plants from any fire damage.

This fire may continue to burn for several days due to the large amount of materials impacted. The fire is contained to the green waste pit and CFS will continue working with landowners to monitor the fire until the area is deemed safe.

Smoke may be visible from local roads in the area, namely Port Wakefield Highway. Please do not enter the area unless necessary to ensure your safety and that of firefighters and other emergency personnel working in the area.

Call for Information – Death – Rapid Creek

Northern Territory Police have recovered the body of a male from a beach near Rapid Creek last night.

Police officers form Search and Rescue and NT Emergency Services personnel assisted with the search and recovery of the man.

The deceased is described as an adult Indigenous man and has not yet been formally identified. Investigations are ongoing.

Police thank members of the public who assisted in the search after witnesses saw the male swimming in Rapid Creek prior to going missing.

Arrests – Crime Series – Katherine

Strike Force Cerberus has arrested four youths in relation to a crime series that occurred across Katherine on Wednesday and Thursday,

Around 5:30pm on Wednesday, two male youths allegedly stole a 62-year-old female’s car keys and fled the scene in her vehicle. The vehicle was located abandoned on Pearce Street after crashing along Shephard Street. 

Around 1am on Thursday, offenders entered an address on the Victoria Highway and stole car keys before ramming the front fence while fleeing the scene in a red Mazda CX-3.

Later at 3am, a white Holden Colorado utility was stolen from an address on Emungalan Road after keys had been left inside the vehicle.

Shortly after, a 2011 Grey Toyota Prado was taken from a separate address on Emungalan Road. The vehicle remains outstanding.

All three stolen motor vehicles were observed driving around Katherine township in a dangerous matter.

A male and female, both aged 38, attempted to chase the offenders from their premises after being woken by them. During the altercation, the offenders allegedly threatened to kill the victims.

When fleeing the scene in the Prado, offenders threw items from the vehicle, one of which struck the male victim in the shin.

Four youths aged 12, 12, 16 and 13 have since been arrested.

The 13-year-old will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act 2005, while the remaining youths remain in custody. 

The Mazda CX-3 and Holden Colorado were later located abandoned in bushland along Gwendoline Drive. They were seized and towed for forensic examination. The Prado remains outstanding and has not been recovered.

Katherine Division Acting Superintendent Warren Scott said “I would like to commend the officers who deployed to these incidents and the investigators who have quickly identified and arrested these offenders. 

“No one deserves to be the victim of crime, however, police would reiterate the importance of keeping your vehicles secure as criminals are always looking to take advantage of opportunistic situations.”

Police seize motorcycle following series of traffic offences

Police have seized a motorcycle in Wynyard following a series of traffic offences involving a 14-year-old rider.The youth will be proceeded against for the following offences:• Operate a vehicle in a public place involving unnecessary speed, acceleration or loss of traction• Drive whilst not the holder of a driver licence• Use an unregistered motor vehicle• Use a motor vehicle without required insurance (no premium cover)• Ride a motorcycle without wearing a helmetThe motorcycle has been seized for a period of three months as this is a second prescribed offence, with the youth having been charged with evade police in a separate incident last month.Police continue to target dangerous driving behaviours, particularly those linked to the Fatal Five, and remind the community that reckless use of vehicles places not only the driver at risk, but also other road users and pedestrians.Anyone with information about dangerous driving is encouraged to contact police or report anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 1800333000 or crimestopperstas.com.au.
