A 39-year-old woman will face court today after allegedly choking her former partner during an altercation last night.

About 10.20pm (Monday, 2 September 2024), the woman attended an address in Chifley to speak to her former partner.

During the conversation, the woman became aggressive, demanding the other woman’s phone and allegedly choking her when she refused to hand it over.

The woman then allegedly snatched the phone and damaged it before leaving the scene.

The other woman reported the incident to police and about 4.30am this morning, officers arrested the 39-year-old woman at a home in Fisher.

She will face the ACT Magistrates Court today charged with aggravated property damage, choking, suffocating or strangling another person, and aggravated common assault.

A 32-year-old Narrabundah man will face the ACT Magistrates Court today after he allegedly failed to stop for police twice in the last month in stolen vehicles.

In July, a woman reported to police that after lending her white Nissan Navarra to the 32-year-old man two weeks prior, he had failed to return the car as they had arranged. He had also accumulated several speeding fines in that time.

In August, the man was observed on CCTV at a City hotel underground carpark entering and exiting the Nissan numerous times.

Later in August, a second vehicle – a silver Mazda CX-9 – was reported stolen from a carpark in Belconnen.

About 4.45am on Friday, 30 August 2024, police were conducting patrols in Denman Prospect, when they observed the Mazda parked in a carpark.

When they approached the vehicle, a man – believed to be the 32-year-old – was in the driver’s seat.

Police will allege that as they attempted to speak with the man he reached for the car keys, and despite police directing him not to do so, started the car and accelerated heavily out of the carpark. Police were required to take evasive action to avoid being hit by the vehicle.

About 11.00pm on Sunday, 8 September 2024, officers were conducting patrols in Kaleen when they observed a dark grey Toyota Camry parked outside a residence. A man – once again believed to be the 32-year-old – was in the driver’s seat.

Upon seeing police, the driver of the Toyota accelerated away at speed, deactivated the headlights, and travelled onto the wrong side of the road.

About 8.50am yesterday morning, police conducted a search warrant on the man’s residence, where the Toyota Camry was located and subsequently seized.

The man has been charged with two counts of driving a motor vehicle without consent, two counts of failing to stop for police, and two counts of unlicensed driving.

A 28-year-old man will face court today following his alleged involvement in a home invasion in late August, where a resident was allegedly threatened with weapons.

About 11.30pm on Saturday, 31 August 2024, the resident of a home in Deakin was allegedly confronted by two men armed with a hammer and knife who had forced their way inside.

The two men demanded the resident’s car keys, wallet, and phone, punching him twice during the incident, before fleeing the scene in a grey Mitsubishi Triton ute and a black Nissan Navara ute.

A 35-year-old man was charged earlier this month in relation to his alleged involvement in the incident, and after a thorough investigation, police executed a search warrant at the second man’s residence in Kambah yesterday.

During the search warrant, police located a number of items related to the alleged home invasion, including clothing, and the victim’s mobile phone and car keys.

The 28-year-old man has been charged with aggravated burglary with the intent to damage property, aggravated burglary with the intent to commit theft, and joint commission aggravated burglary with the intent to cause harm.

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses and information relating to alleged sexual assault matters that are believed to have occurred at a cookie shop in Tuggeranong between 2007 and 2014.

As part of an ongoing investigation, police are seeking information from people who worked or had close contact with the ‘Cookie Man’ business in the Tuggeranong Hyperdome during the period 2007 to 2014.

A man has been charged with sexual offences in relation to this investigation, however police are now issuing a public call for assistance.

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to indecent exposure incidents that have occurred recently in the Kambah area.

About 11.45am on Friday (6 September 2024) a woman reported a man of African appearance committing an indecent act near her car while it was parked on Kambah Pool Road.

Police also received a report of an incident where the same man was allegedly observed committing an indecent act in the front seat of a blue Tesla parked at the Kambah Number 3 Sports Ground at about 12.30pm on Friday.

The man was later arrested and charged with two counts of indecent exposure.

Police are seeking witnesses to these incidents as well as information relating to other similar behaviour in the Kambah area.

A 30-year-old woman will face court today after allegedly trying to run over her former partner during an incident in Dickson yesterday.

About 12pm (Monday, 9 September 2024), the woman, who was accompanied by her two children, met with her former partner near the Dickson pool. The two had a conversation before the woman got into her car and drove at him, narrowly missing him.

The woman allegedly reversed the vehicle and drove at him a second time, striking him in the hand and ribs.

The woman and her children left the scene and police were called.

After speaking to the man and other witnesses, police attended the woman’s residence in O’Connor and arrested her.

She has been charged with aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm, aggravated property damage, and driving offences. She will face the ACT Magistrates Court today.

A 23-year-old Charnwood man will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning charged with multiple offences following a dangerous driving incident yesterday.

About 1.15pm yesterday (Monday, 9 September 2024), police observed a gold Subaru station wagon travelling on Hindmarsh Drive, Weston that was not registered.

A short time later, police attempted to stop the vehicle in Phillip for the purpose of a registration check, however the man accelerated away heavily into Altree Circuit.

Police situated their vehicle on Botany Street, aware that this road is a loop with only one exit.

In order to evade police, the 23-year-old drove directly at the police vehicle and travelled along the passenger side, almost hitting police.

The Subaru then drove onto the roundabout on Botany Street, causing several vehicles to stop to avoid being struck by the man.

About 1.30pm, police received a 000 call from the 23-year-old claiming that his car, the gold Subaru, had been stolen and that he was at his place of work in Gungahlin.

Despite the man claiming to be in Gungahlin, police tracked the origin of the call to be in Weston.

Officers located the man a short time later in Weston as a passenger in another vehicle, and the Gold Subaru was found at a residence in Phillip.

The man has been charged with failing to stop for police, dangerous driving, driving while his licence was suspended, using an unregistered vehicle, using an uninsured vehicle, and making a vexatious call to emergency services. The man also had bail conditions not to be in the driver’s seat of a vehicle at the time of the incident.

A 31-year-old man has died following an incident on Anzac Parade this afternoon. 

About 2:30pm today (Monday, 9 September 2024) police and emergency services responded to reports of an incident on Anzac Parade.  

Witnesses indicated that a man fell from a moving vehicle which was travelling southbound on Anzac Parade.  

Emergency services treated the man at the scene, and he was transported to hospital in a critical condition.  Sadly, he wasdeclared deceased soon after. 

The witnesses are assisting police with their enquiries. 

The circumstances of the incident are being investigated by both ACT Criminal Investigations and the Major Collision Team.

ACT Policing is advising morning commuters about likely traffic disruptions as a result of planned protest activity tomorrow.

A truck convoy will travel to Canberra tomorrow (Tuesday, 10 September 2024) and it will be active on our roads between approximately 8am and 11am.  

Police have been advised that after 8am, two groups of trucks will converge at the top of Northbourne Avenue and proceed towards the City.  

Roads that are expected to be impacted include:

• Northbourne Avenue,
• Cooyong and Coranderrk Streets in the City,
• Parkes Way,
• Monaro Highway and Hindmarsh Drive (near Fyshwick)
• Canberra Avenue
• State Circle.

From State Circle the convoy is expected to travel to EPIC via Canberra Avenue and the Majura Parkway.  
Protestors are then expected to congregate at Federation Mall.  
Drivers are asked to be aware of the planned protest activity on the roads and if you may be impacted, please leave in plenty of time or select an alternative route.
