Darwin Centralised Social Order Results

Source: Northern Territory Police and Fire Services

The new Darwin Centralised Social Order Concept, implemented on 30 October 2025, has seen a marked increased in proactive policing across the greater Darwin region.

Coordinated through the Territory Safety Division (TSD), the Centralised Social Order Concept brings together all social-order resources across Darwin, Palmerston, and Casuarina under a single operational framework. The model focuses on early interdiction, coordinated tasking, and targeted enforcement against the key drivers of anti-social behaviour (ASB) and alcohol-related harm.

Since the rollout of the concept, the TSD and contributing members from Greater Darwin and Specialist Services have delivered measurable and sustained outcomes for the community, including:

  • 7,339 litres of alcohol seized and destroyed
  • 829 Banned Drinker Orders issued
  • 287 persons taken into Protective Custody
  • 263 arrests
  • 149 infringement notices issued
  • Over 5,000 targeted proactive patrols conducted

Senior Sergeant Joshua Cunningham of the Territory Safety Division said the coordinated model has strengthened the NT Police Force’s ability to respond to ASB across the Greater Darwin region.

“The centralised structure has allowed us to direct resources where they are most needed, reduce duplication, and deliver a consistent and highly visible response across all regions. Our members have worked tirelessly and the impact is clear, fewer alcohol-related incidents, improved safety in public spaces, and a safer community.”

The NT Police Force will continue this coordinated approach, ensuring the Centralised Social Order Concept remains a key element in reducing crime and improving community safety. The TSD will build on the success already achieved, strengthening partnerships and delivering proactive, high-impact policing across the region.

CFA’s arduous firefighters aid bushfire response

Source: Victoria Country Fire Authority

CFA’s newly formed Remote Arduous Firefighting (RAFF) unit is officially in action.

Following rigorous training, the pilot program officially kicked off on 1 January. Since that time, the unit has already been deployed seven times to various fires across the state.

The unit’s first deployment was to the Ovens region in early January, where they worked directly with Forest Fire Management Victoria (FFMVic) crews. The joint deployment gave both agencies an opportunity to better understand each other’s capabilities, expertise, training, and equipment as they undertook vital fire suppression.

Shortly after returning from their first response, the CFA RAFF unit was deployed to Meredith. Once again working with FFMVic, arduous firefighter teams from both agencies created control lines in remote areas not accessible by vehicle or machinery.

CFA District 7 Commander Alex Batty has led the RAFF project, and said the team has already been a huge benefit to firefighting efforts and community protection.

“Crews have been working closely with FFMVic teams at Ovens, Alexandra and at Mt Mercer,” Alex said.

“They’ve been able to go deep into inaccessible areas which could not have been otherwise possible by aircraft or vehicles.

”Ahead of the upcoming elevated fire conditions, The unit have focused on locating and suppressing hot spots in key areas.

The pilot program has already proven to be a vital new capability for CFA to navigate fires in private bushland, and an important complementary capability when supporting FFMVic during joint responses to fires within public land.

“We look forward to expanding the program in 2026.”

The $1.2 million partnership will be delivered over four years through PacificAus Sports and help strengthen the governance of Pacific tennis organisations, give access to high-performance training and coaching and increase opportunities to compete throughout the region.

This builds on the success of existing initiatives, including the Pacific Women Leaders in Tennis program with an alumni of 40 women who have progressed into senior roles in tennis federations and boards.

The partnership will continue to strengthen connections between Australian and Pacific tennis organisations, bring communities together and support women to take up leadership roles on and off the court.

New inflation figures

Source: Australian Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Industry

New figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics show inflation has increased but remains much lower than its peak and much lower than we inherited.

This increase was unwelcome but unsurprising.

Temporary factors drove some of the tick up, with inflation still expected to decline over time.

Inflation has eased substantially since we came to office but is still higher than we’d like.

Headline inflation was 3.8 per cent through the year to the month of December. This compares to 3.4 per cent through the year to November.

The monthly measure of underlying inflation was 0.2 per cent in the month, down from 0.3 per cent in the previous month. In annual terms, it was 3.3 per cent.

The quarterly measure of underlying inflation was 0.9 per cent in the December quarter, down from 1.0 per cent in the September quarter. This measure of underlying inflation was 3.4 per cent through the year to the December quarter 2025, up from 3.0 per cent in the year to the September quarter.

Today’s data shows our inflation challenge reflects a mix of temporary factors and some more persistent pressures.

Temporary factors, like the end of energy rebates and a rise in travel prices, contributed to the result, and there are some more persistent pressures in areas like housing.

The data also reflects the recovery we’ve seen in the private sector.

We’ve seen around the world that inflation doesn’t always moderate in a straight line – having increased recently in some advanced economies.

When we came to office, headline inflation was 6.1 per cent and rapidly rising, it’s now much lower than that.

Underlying inflation was around five per cent but it is now much lower.

Under Labor, inflation is much lower than we inherited, economic growth is picking up, business investment is strengthening, unemployment is low, participation is at near record highs, real wages are growing, debt is down, and the budget is in better nick.

We’ve made a lot of progress together on the economy but the job’s not done because people are still under pressure and that’s why we continue to roll out responsible cost‑of‑living relief at the same time as we modernise Australia’s economy.

The three big economic priorities for the Albanese Government this year are addressing inflation, productivity and global uncertainty, and these figures show why that’s the right approach.
