Invermay man charged with multiple firearms and property related offences

Saturday, 3 January 2026 – 8:52 pm.

Police have charged a 36-year-old Invermay man with multiple firearms and property related offences following a search at Invermay today.
About 10am, police conducted a search at an Invermay residence and allegedly located several gel blaster imitation firearms. Also located was a significant quantity of allegedly stolen property, which was predominantly battery powered tools, allegedly linked to recent incidents in the Launceston area.
The man was detained to appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court tomorrow morning.

Two buildings in Sea Lake, in the North West of Victoria, were destroyed after a fire tore through on Saturday afternoon (3 Jan).

The buildings include The Bottom Café that was vacant and the neighbouring hairdresser.

CFA, with FRV, was called to the fire at about 15.25pm today and had 14 firetrucks attended the scene.

CFA District 18 Assistant Chief Fire Officer, Gavin Wright said the cause of the fire was unknown at this stage and a fire investigation will be carried out.

“Witness observed a fire in the backyard of the café and said the fire rapidly spread to the rear of the shop. From there it spread to the hairdresser next door,” Gavin said.

“Crews did a great job making sure the fire did not do more damage considering the two shops destroyed were in a strip of shops.”

“They managed to save the pharmacy that was next door which is an essential service in a small town like this.

“Bulk water carriers were brought in to help contain the fire due to the low water pressure in the town.”

The fire is now contained and CFA units are still on scene ensuring the fire is extinguished.

The NT Police Force no longer hold concern for the welfare of Phillip, as he has been located and conveyed to the local clinic for treatment.

Police thank the NT Emergency Service, volunteer fire fighters, and members of the public for their prompt assistance.

Tintinara Hay Stack Fire

The SA Country Fire Service (CFS) have contained a hay stack fire 20 km south-west of the Tintinara township in the Upper South East of South Australia.

CFS firefighters together with farm fire units have contained this fire with support of heavy machinery which has created a break around the fire. A small hay shed, trailer, and approximately 1,200 hay bales have been lost. CFS crews supported by farm fire units will remain on scene for the next few days working to extinguish any remaining hot spots, with the fire expected to produce smoke for several days.

Smoke may be visible from surrounding areas. To ensure your safety and that of firefighting personnel please do not enter the area unless necessary.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

The NT Police Force hold concerns for the welfare of 50-year-old Phillip.

Phillip was last seen at a residence in Ali Curung at approximately 10am on Friday 2 January 2026, before walking away in a westerly direction. He has not returned since.

At the time, he was wearing a blue grey hoodie with a North Melbourne guernsey worn underneath, and black shorts with white stripes.

Phillip was not in possession of food or water when he left, and police and family members hold concerns for his welfare. He is known to have links to Tennant Creek and Alice Springs.

Youths charged in relation to alleged assault in Rosny area

Saturday, 3 January 2026 – 11:45 am.

Police have charged three youths in relation to an alleged assault in the Rosny area last night where a man sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
About 10.15pm, a 19-year-old man was allegedly assaulted in the Rosny Park Bus Mall area.
He was taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital with what are reported to be non-life-threatening injuries.
At this stage police have charged three youths aged 15, 16, and 17 with assault in relation to the matter.
“Everyone has the right to be safe in our public places, and police will not tolerate violence,” said Acting Inspector Andrew Morton.
“Police would like to speak to anyone who has information in relation to this incident, or recorded the incident on their mobile phone or dash cam.”

The NT Police Force is calling for witnesses in relation to a domestic violence related aggravated assault that occurred in Alice Springs last night.

At around 9:00pm, the Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre received reports of a female allegedly being assaulted by a male.

On police arrival, it was established that a 31-year-old male had allegedly assaulted his 35-year-old female ex-partner before fleeing the area.

St John Ambulance attended and conveyed the victim to Alice Springs Hospital for treatment.

A short time later, the offender was located and arrested nearby, and he has since been charged with:

• Recklessly endangering serious harm
• Aggravated assault
• Engage in conduct that contravenes a DVO
• Going armed in public
• Make a threat to kill a person

He was remanded to appear in Alice Springs Local Court on 5 January 2026.

During the investigation, it was identified that two witnesses recorded the alleged assault taking place with their mobile phones.
