Police seeking witnesses to family violence incident in Tharwa

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to an alleged family violence incident in Tharwa on Sunday afternoon.

About 4.10pm (Sunday, 16 February 2025), a woman and man were travelling along Tharwa Drive in a white Ford Focus when a red Mitsubishi Triton began following the vehicle.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, a man known to the woman, pulled in front of the Ford on Smiths Road and stopped across both lanes, blocking the road.

The driver then exited the vehicle and began yelling at the female driver before allegedly stealing the car keys and forcing the woman into the Mitsubishi.

The male passenger called police and was assisted by two witnesses.

Later that evening, police located the vehicle and the two occupants in Tharwa. The man was arrested and charged with offences including theft and forcible confinement.

Police would like to speak to anyone who saw the incident or the red Mitsubishi Triton being driven in Tharwa yesterday afternoon.

Man charged with sexual assault and theft offences allegedly committed against his partner

A 43-year-old man will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning after allegedly sexually assaulting his partner and taking her jewellery to sell it.

On Tuesday, 11 February 2025, police commenced an investigation after the woman attended Woden Police Station to report the alleged sexual assaults and thefts.

Police will allege the man sexually assaulted the woman on multiple occasions. He is further alleged to have taken her jewellery without her knowledge and sold it.

About 6.10pm yesterday (Friday, 14 February 2025), police located the man at a residence in Narrabundah where he was subsequently arrested.

He has been charged with three counts of sexual intercourse without consent, and five counts of theft.

Witnesses sought to Amaroo road-rage incident and collision

Police are seeking witnesses to a road-rage incident and an unrelated collision at the same intersection in Amaroo yesterday afternoon.

About 1.10pm (Thursday, 13 February 2025), police received reports that the drivers of a silver Mercedes-Benz Valente van and a white utility were having an altercation at the intersection of Horse Park Drive and Katherine Avenue, Amaroo.

A short time later (and while the altercation was occurring), a silver Mitsubishi Triton and a white Izuzu D—MAX had a head-on collision at the same intersection.

Police are now seeking public assistance to assist in the investigations of these two incidents.

Woman subject to good behaviour order charged with aggravated burglary

A 26-year-old Turner woman will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning following an alleged aggravated burglary at a real estate agency in Braddon yesterday.

About 7.10am yesterday morning (Wednesday, 26 February 2025) the woman allegedly used tools to pry two secured lockboxes off the front entrance of the business, which contained a swipe card to the building.

The woman is then alleged to have returned at about 7.50am with a man and woman and used the swipe card to gain access.

The two women and the man then allegedly ransacked the rooms within the building and are alleged to have taken several items including numerous keys to properties, laptops, an iPad, cameras, and wallets.

About 9.30am, police attended the real estate agency after receiving reports of the burglary.

Utilising CCTV footage and location data from a laptop that was allegedly stolen during the burglary, police attended the 26-year-old’s residence in Turner yesterday morning.

Police located the majority of the items that were stolen inside the property, and the woman was subsequently arrested.

The 26-year-old, who was subject to a good behaviour order at the time of the incident, has been charged with aggravated burglary and breaching a good behaviour order.

An AFP member is set to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court today (Tuesday, 25 February, 2025) charged with contravening a family violence order.

The member was arrested by ACT Policing yesterday (24 February, 2025).

The AFP is committed to transparency.

As the matter is before the court, no further comment will be made at this time.

Three motorists caught speeding, drug driving, and driving while disqualified

Two drivers have been charged and another has lost his licence after separate drug driving, unlicenced driving, and speeding incidents over the weekend.

About 8.15pm on Friday (21 February 2025), police conducting mobile speed detection along Commonwealth Avenue observed a group of motorcyclists travelling southbound towards Capital Circuit.

One rider was stopped after he was detected travelling at 127km/h in an 80km/h zone.

The 28-year-old Calwell man was issued with an immediate suspension notice and a $1841 infringement.

About 11.15pm on Saturday (22 February 2025), police conducting patrols in Richardson conducted a traffic stop on a blue Suzuki Swift.

The driver, who was subject to bail conditions not to drive, was found to be unlicenced and driving an unregistered vehicle.

The 60-year-old man was subject to a roadside drug test which returned a positive result.

He was conveyed to the ACT Watch House where he was charged with being an unlicenced driver, using an unregistered vehicle and having a prescribed drug in oral fluid.

In the third incident, about 12.20am this morning (Monday, 24 February 2024), the driver of a white Toyota Hilux with no registration plates was pulled over in Richardson.

The 28-year-old driver could not produce a licence and checks revealed the vehicle had been unregistered since 2019.

The man is due to face the ACT Magistrates Court today, charged with driving while disqualified, using an unregistered vehicle, not display provisional plates and not having registration plates attached to the vehicle.

Man charged following taxi theft

A 39-year-old man from Ngunnawal has been charged after he allegedly stole a taxi at knifepoint and led police on a chase through multiple Belconnen suburbs early today.

The man got into the taxi on Bunda Street in the city at about 2am this morning (Sunday, 23 February 2025) before he allegedly threatened the driver with a knife. The driver exited his taxi on Alinga Street and called police.

The 39-year-old man allegedly drove off in the taxi and it was later located in Macquarie where police began pursuing it. It was observed exceeding the speed limit and regularly crossing onto the wrong side of the road.

The pursuit ended in Whitlam when the taxi mounted a kerb and came to a stop.

The man was arrested and later charged with take motor vehicle without consent, possess knife without reasonable excuse, unlicenced driving and reckless driving. He is expected to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court on Monday (24 February 2025).

Witnesses sought to Watson incident

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses and information following the discovery of an unconscious man in Watson earlier this afternoon.

About 2pm today (Saturday, 22 February 2025) police and ACT Ambulance Service paramedics were called to the Windeyer Court apartment complex on Knox Street, Watson.

At the apartment complex, officers and paramedics located a 56-year-old unconscious man at the bottom of a flight of stairs.

He was subsequently transported to hospital in a critical condition.

A crime scene has been established and ACT Policing is now seeking information relating to the incident.

At this time police are unable to confirm the circumstances that led to the man becoming unconscious and are seeking public assistance.

Anyone who saw or heard activity in and around the Windeyer Court apartment complex prior to 2pm today is urged to come forward.

Man charged and gel-blaster firearms seized

A 39-year-old Richardson man has been charged and 13 prohibited firearms have been seized following police response to a disturbance last night.

About 10.20pm last night (Friday, 21 February 2025) police attended a residence in Richardson following reports of a disturbance.

After entering the residence, officers observed display wall containing numerous prohibited firearms.

Police located the owner of the firearms at about midnight in a carpark in Wanniassa.

The 39-year-old man was subsequently arrested and charged with one count of unauthorised possession of 10 or more prohibited firearms. He was also subject to a good behaviour order at the time of his arrest.

The man is scheduled to face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning (Saturday, 22 February 2025).

ACT Policing reminds the community that replica firearms including gel-blasters are prohibited items and it is a criminal offence to possess items such as the ones seized in this incident.

Police operation in Uriarra tomorrow

ACT Policing, with the assistance of AFP Search and Rescue and the ACT State Emergency Service, will be conducting a search operation in the vicinity of the Uriarra Crossing Recreation Area tomorrow (Saturday, 22 February 2025).

Access to this area (including the off-lead dog beach area) will be restricted while this search is conducted. The Uriarra East Picnic Reserve Carpark area will also be closed off to the public during the operation.

ACT Policing apologises for the disruption that this may cause to people wishing to use these facilities.

The search is related to an ongoing investigation and is expected to run for most of the day.
