A learner motorcyclist who was ‘catching up to another set of riders to see if they were part of her group’ will be without her licence for the next six months after being caught speeding on the Barton Highway on Monday.

About 9:20pm on Monday (24 March 2024), officers from ACT Road Policing were conducting speed enforcement activity on Barton Highway, Crace when they detected the motorcyclist travelling at 135km/h in an 80km/h zone.

The 21-year-old female rider, who held a learner motorcycle licence, incurred a fine of $1841 as well as six demerit points. Her licence was also immediately suspended for 180 days.

ACT Policing reminds the community there is no excuse for speeding and that motorcycle riders are considered vulnerable road users. Speeding while on a motorbike significantly increases the risk of death and injury to the rider and other road users.

Members from ACT Policing’s Territory Targeting Team (TTT) commenced an investigation after receiving information about alleged illicit drug cultivation and distribution at a residence in Lyneham.

About 10am yesterday (2 April 2025), TTT officers, with the help of members from AFP K9, Exhibit Management Centre and AFP Forensic Search & Imagery, executed a search warrant at the Lyneham home.

On entry, officers located four mature cannabis plants in the backyard standing over two meters tall. It is believed the plants had been growing at this location for a number of years.

ACT Policing is investigating a series of four shootings that have occurred in Canberra in the past week, with search warrants executed in Belconnen and Watson yesterday (Monday, 2 April 2025).

Last Thursday (27 March 2025) a firearm was discharged inside a residence in Greenway with minor ricochet injuries to one occupant in the home.

On Friday (28 March 2025) a firearm was discharged multiple times in a home in Downer with a pet dog killed as a result of the shooting.

On Saturday evening (29 March 2025), police and emergency services responded to a report that a man had been shot at a residence on Knox Street, Watson.

Following an examination of the scene, police determined that the property was also shot at several times in a second incident earlier that week.

ACT Criminal Investigations officers now believe a group of three men are responsible for these four incidents, with the first believed to have occurred around 25 March (2025) in Watson.

While these incidents are concerning, police believe these incidents are targeted and there is no wider threat to the community.

Two other shooting incidents in Lyneham and Florey are not thought to be linked to these four incidents.

Investigations into these matters are ongoing and anyone with information about any of them is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website. Please quote reference number 8008707. Information can be provided anonymously.
