A 41-year-old Karabar (NSW) man will front the ACT Magistrate’s Court this morning after allegedly trying to avoid police in NSW and the ACT – all with one tyre missing.

At about 10.45pm last night (Wednesday, 8 November), NSW Police informed ACT Policing that they were in pursuit of a grey Subaru Liberty station wagon which was heading towards the ACT.

ACT Policing will then allege they were able to locate the vehicle shortly after on Athlion Drive in Wanniassa noting the rubber from the rear passenger side tyre was gone. Police activated their emergency warning lights and siren and the vehicle pulled to the side of the road.

As a Road Policing member was walking towards the vehicle, the driver has attempted to accelerate away from police, however after travelling about 100 metres with one tyre missing, the vehicle lost control and stopped on an embankment where the driver fled from the vehicle.

After a short foot pursuit, police were able to apprehend the driver and take him into custody.  The vehicle was seized under road transport legislation for failing to stop.

Police observed other items in the vehicle which they believe may have been stolen and a search warrant will be executed on the vehicle.

The Karabar man has been charged with one count of failing to stop a motor vehicle for police, one count of unlawful possession of stolen property as well as three other driving related offences. He will front court this morning.

A 23-year-old man of Pakistani origin has died following an incident at Casuarina Sands earlier this week.

On the afternoon of Sunday, 26 November 2023, the man and two other men were floating in rafts on the Murrumbidgee River. About 4.50pm, the 23-year-old man – who police understand was an inexperienced swimmer – fell out of his raft and disappeared underwater.

The man was pulled from the water a short time later by members of the public, who commenced CPR until emergency services arrived at the scene.

He was transported to hospital, however sadly died earlier this afternoon (Wednesday, 29 November).

ACT Policing will prepare a report for the coroner.

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses and dash-cam footage of a collision on Hindmarsh Drive near Fyshwick.

About 7.45pm on Wednesday, 22 November 2023, a silver Toyota Camry sedan was travelling westbound on Hindmarsh Drive.

A short time later, the Camry and a brown Toyota Hilux ute have collided at the intersection where Hindmarsh Drive travels over the Monaro Highway – the Hilux entered the intersection travelling south from Monaro Highway up the on-ramp onto Hindmarsh Drive.

The collision caused both vehicles to come to a halt, however the driver of the Hilux subsequently left the scene in his vehicle without exchanging details.

Police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have dash-cam footage from the area around the time of the incident.

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to a serious arson incident that occurred in Spence earlier this month.

About 10.30pm on Saturday 18 November 2023 police and ACT Fire & Rescue were called to a structure fire in O’Neill Street, Spence.

A carport, storage rooms and three vehicles were destroyed in the fire. The value of the damage is estimated to be in excess of $100,000.

Detective Acting Inspector Matt Innes said the property damage from this fire has caused significant distress and financial hardship to the victims.

“We are urging people with information about this incident to come forward” said Detective Acting Inspector Innes.

“This deliberately lit fire placed people’s homes at risk and is a mindless act. We know there are people in the community with information about this incident and they should contact Crime Stoppers as soon as possible.“

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to a road rage incident on the Tuggeranong Parkway earlier this week.

About 8.30am on Monday morning (20 November 2023) a grey Nissan X-Trail and a white Holden Commodore were travelling northbound on the Tuggeranong Parkway near the Glenloch Interchange.

A short time later, the Commodore has caused the X-Trail to stop in the left-hand lane of the roadway, at which time the driver of the Commodore exited his vehicle and allegedly caused damage to the X-Trail.

The Commodore was seen allegedly driving in an erratic matter, swerving in and out of lanes, prior to the incident with the X-Trail.

Police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident, the lead up to the incident, or anyone who may have dash-cam footage of the incident.

ACT Policing has seized 3D printed firearms and ammunition at a residence in Garran.

About 10.45am on Thursday, 16 November 2023, police were alerted to a 17-year-old boy in possession of a 3D printed firearm.

Police subsequently seized the firearm, a white and black replica 3D printed bolt action pistol, and commenced an investigation.

Later that day, police attended and searched the boy’s residence locating three additional 3D printed firearms, including a silver 3D printed replica 44 magnum revolver, a black and green 3D printed replica rocket propelled grenade, a black 3D printed replica 50 calibre revolver pistol, and 3D printed ammunition.

Police would like to remind the Canberra community that the manufacturing of 3D printed weapons is illegal and 3D printed firearms are considered illegal weapons.

ACT Policing’s Family Violence Unit working with ACT Corrective Services have charged four Alexander Maconochie Centre (AMC) detainees with contraventions of family violence orders (FVOs) this month.

During November, four detainees at the AMC have been charged with a combined total of 14 contraventions of served and enforceable, nationally recognised FVOs.

Police will allege the detainees contacted protected persons from within the AMC in contravention of their FVOs by providing false information to ACT Corrective Services, using other detainees’ telephone accounts, or passing messages through third parties.

Additionally, the Family Violence Unit has also charged an associate of one of the detainees, who is not a detainee at the AMC, with aiding and abetting the contravention of an FVO.

Contravening, and aiding and abetting the contravention of an FVO are both serious offences carrying a maximum penalty of up to five years imprisonment.

Police are committed to reducing all forms of family violence in the community and will continue to investigate this type of offending to prioritise victim safety and ensure offenders accountability.

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses who assisted a man who may have been hit by a vehicle in Kambah on Monday, 20 November 2023.

About 10.35pm police received reports of a man lying unconscious in the middle of the road at the intersection of Summerland Circuit and Kingsmill Street, Kambah.

Prior to police arriving, at least one member of the public, who is believed to work at a hospital, rendered assistance to the man.

Police would like to speak to the woman who assisted the man, and anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has dash-cam footage.

If you were driving through the intersection prior to 10.35pm on Monday night then police would ask that you come forward. The injured man was wearing a black t-shirt, black pants, and a dark coloured backpack.

To assist in the investigation into this incident, police are also asking for dash-cam footage from any vehicles that passed through the area of Livingstone Avenue, to the intersection of Drakeford Drive and O’Halloran Circuit between 7.00pm to 11.00pm.

While investigators have spoken to some witnesses, other drivers may have seen the man and may be able to assist police.

The ACT Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team (JACET) have laid an additional seven charges in relation to the possession of child abuse material following an investigation that commenced in 2022.

A 66-year-old man previously charged in February 2023, will face court today (Thursday, 23 November 2023) where the additional charges will be laid.

Following forensic analysis of seized electronic items, an additional seven charges will be laid. These include two counts of access child abuse material, one count of access child pornography material, one count of make available child pornography material, one count of solicit child abuse material, one count of possess child exploitation material, and one count of fail to report as required.

A 31-year-old Banks man has been charged with assault and driving offences following two seperate incidents on the weekend.

About 9.30pm on Friday (17 November 2023), a grey BF Ford Falcon was parked in a Majura Park car park. The driver of the Ford, who was nearby, observed a white Toyota Landcruiser drive into the rear of his vehicle, causing significant damage.

The driver of the white Toyota Landcruiser, the 31-year-old Banks man, left the location and failed to provide details with the driver of the Ford.

Later that evening at about 1.40am on Saturday (18 November 2023), a group of people were sitting in the front yard of their residence in Kingston, when three men approached the group.

The 31-year-old man from Banks was holding a knife and a hammer in his hand.

Police will allege the man then struck one of the people sitting at the Kingston residence with a hammer in the face and back of the head, and repeatedly threatened them.

Upon police arrival, the group of men took off. Police located the group of men in the white Toyota Landcruiser a short time later in Kingston.

The 31-year-old Banks man was breath tested at the scene, later returning a breath analysis reading of 0.144.

The man will face the ACT Magistrates Court today charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, reckless threat to kill a person, damage property and driving related charges.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing and further charges may be laid.
