A 28-year-old Taylor man has been charged after allegedly choking and assaulting his partner and her dog.

On Tuesday (29 July 2025) night, the man allegedly assaulted his partner at their residence, slapping her multiple times.

In the early hours of Wednesday morning (30 July 2025), the man allegedly grabbed the woman by her throat and choked her on two occasions.

That night, the man allegedly also struck the woman’s dog and threatened to kill it by throwing it off the balcony.

The incidents were reported to police and about 8pm last night (Wednesday 30 July 2025) the man was arrested.

He will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Thursday 31 July 2025) charged with two counts of aggravated common assault, two counts of chokes, suffocates, strangles another person, aggravated damage property and cruelty to animals.

Man charged after allegedly stealing more than 1.5 tonnes of copper

A 51-year-old man will face court today after allegedly stealing more than 1.5 tonnes of copper from construction sites and other locations in the ACT.

In June, police were notified of burglaries at a construction site in Gungahlin where a vehicle, tools, and copper wire were stolen.

Investigations identified the stolen vehicle had attended an address in Florey and when police attempted to speak to the occupants, they observed copper wiring in the backyard.

Police later executed a search warrant at the residence and seized a mobile phone.

Yesterday (Wednesday, 30 July 2025), police attended an address in Bonner to locate a 51-year-old man believed to be responsible for the construction site burglary and theft of the vehicle. He attempted to flee but was caught in the yard of a nearby home.

Following further enquiries, police will allege the man sold more than 1.6 tonnes of stolen copper to a metal recycling centre this year.

He has been charged with two counts of unlawful possession of stolen property, burglary, driving a motor vehicle without consent, and trespass, and is scheduled to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court today (Thursday, 31 July 2025).

Teen charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing mother

A 19-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing his mother at their home in Page.

About 8am yesterday (Wednesday, 30 July 2025), the man allegedly stabbed his mother multiple times with a kitchen knife.

He then attended Belconnen Station to report the incident and was subsequently arrested.

Police and emergency services attended the home, and the woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The teenager has been charged with attempted murder and is expected to face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Thursday, 31 July 2025).

Traffic disruptions to occur on Thursday

ACT Policing is alerting Canberrans of possible traffic disruptions tomorrow morning (Thursday, 31 July 2025) due to a wide-load escort.

Police will be providing an escort from Mitchell to Campbell between 9:45am and 10:30am. The escort will travel along the Federal Highway and Majura Parkway before taking Fairbairn Avenue to the Australian War Memorial.

Drivers who find themselves in delayed traffic are reminded to obey the directions of police, and if stopped should not break road rules (including crossing verges, paths or median strips). Disruptions will be minimal.

If road users encounter a police escort we ask that they:

  • Be aware of their surroundings at all times.
  • Obey the directions of police – especially at intersections
  • Be patient
  • Don’t drive over median strips or perform illegal u-turns
  • Recognise that the delay will be for a short period only

Man charged after allegedly threatening to kill woman

A 36-year-old man will face court today after allegedly threatening to kill his property manager.

On Monday (28 July 2025) morning, police allege the man sent several messages to his property manager, including threats to kill her.

The incident was reported to police and yesterday (Tuesday, 29 July 2025), the man was arrested at his home in Lyneham.

Police will also allege the man repeatedly attended the woman’s workplace and verbally abused her and other employees.

The man was charged with using a carriage service to threaten to kill and stalking, and is due to face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Wednesday, 30 July 2025).

Man found with 16 knives charged following alleged robbery

A 29-year-old Hawker man has been charged with aggravated robbery and multiple knife offences after allegedly attempting to rob a bottle shop in Belconnen.

About 3pm yesterday afternoon (Monday 11 August 2025) the man entered a Belconnen bottle shop and then left with a stolen item.

Two loss prevention officers followed the man and asked for the stolen item to be returned. The man then allegedly pulled out a knife and threatened the two men, on two occasions.

Police were called and located the man a short time later, where he was placed under arrest.

A subsequent search of the man revealed he was in possession of 14 knives in a duffle bag, and two knives within his clothing.

He will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Tuesday 12 August 2025) charged with aggravated robbery, possess offensive weapon with intent and 15 counts of possess knife without reasonable excuse.

Man charged after ramming police vehicle

A 44-year-old man who was ordered by a court not to be in the ACT has been charged after allegedly ramming a police vehicle while attempting to escape from police.

About midday yesterday (Monday, 11 August 2025), police were searching for the driver of a black Volkswagen Tiguan after he was allegedly involved in an altercation with security guards at Australian National University earlier that morning. Police will allege the man refused to leave the university grounds as directed by campus security.

Officers conducting patrols in Lyneham observed the vehicle run a red light on Northbourne Avenue and directed the driver to pull over. The man refused to stop for police, speeding away and running another red light.

About 1:40pm, the vehicle was spotted in Dickson where police attempted to apprehend the driver.

He allegedly reversed into a police vehicle before officers removed him from the car, subsequently arresting him.

A search of the man located an expired driver’s licence, and a small bag suspected to contain methamphetamine.

He was issued with an Immediate Suspension Notice suspending his right to drive in the ACT.

The man was also charged with multiple traffic offences including failing to stop for police, dangerous driving, driving unlicenced and refusing to undergo drug and alcohol testing. He is expected to face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Tuesday, 12 August 2025).

Thanks Canberra, the man we posted about yesterday has been identified. He is expected to be charged with assault and property damage offences at a later date.

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to an incident in May where a bus driver was confronted by a male passenger.

About 11:30am on Saturday, 17 May 2025, a man boarded a bus near the Calwell shops.

He refused to pay his fare and became verbally aggressive to the driver. After a short period, he head-butted the glass partition and broke it, causing the glass to shatter over the driver, before fleeing.

The man is described as Caucasian in appearance, approximately 170cm tall (5’7”) with dark facial hair. At the time of the incident he was wearing a black hat, black hoodie, black pants, dark shoes, and was carrying a black bag.

Two men charged with family violence offences

Two men have been charged with family violence offences after being arrested in separate incidents.

About 10:30pm last night (Saturday, 9 August 20205), a 41-year-old Phillip man allegedly used a brick to damage his partner’s vehicle while she was sitting inside. He also allegedly grabbed her and threatened to kill her before she managed to flee and call for help.

Police located the man nearby and he was arrested.

He has been charged with reckless threat to kill a person, aggravated common assault, possessing an offensive weapon with intent, and property damage.

In a separate matter, police charged a 47-year-old Strathnairn man after he allegedly assaulted his partner multiple times since September 2024.

It will be alleged the man shoved his partner to the ground, strangled her, restrained her, and threw items at her. The incidents were reported to police and he was arrested yesterday morning.

He has been charged with two counts of aggravated common assault, as well as chokes/suffocates/strangles another person, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Both men are due to appear before the ACT Magistrates Court tomorrow (Monday, 11 August 2025).

ACT Policing is seeking the public’s assistance to identify a man believed to have damaged vehicles at a temple in Florey this week.

About 9pm on Monday (4 August 2025), police received multiple reports of slashed tyres at a temple in Florey.

Following enquiries, police are appealing for the community’s assistance to identify a man captured on CCTV allegedly damaging tyres.
