A 37-year-old man has been charged with fraud and weapon possession offences after allegedly using counterfeit currency at businesses in Canberra.

Police allege the man used counterfeit Australian banknotes to purchase food at fast food outlets in Phillip and Griffith.

The incidents were reported to police, and about 7:30am yesterday, officers executed a search warrant at the man’s Narrabundah home.

Police seized counterfeit notes, approximately 70 grams of cocaine, a gel blaster, tasers, and other prohibited weapons.

He was arrested and conveyed to the ACT Watch House where he was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance, possessing a prohibited firearm and prohibited weapons.

He is due to face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Saturday, 26 July 2025).

ACT Policing is reminding Canberrans to secure their homes and hide valuables after three teenagers were charged with breaking into a Griffith home.

Last month (23 July 2025), three teenagers and an unknown offender in a stolen BMW sedan stopped on a street in Griffith, ACT.

A 14-year-old boy and 15-year-old boy attempted to enter a home through the front and rear doors but were unsuccessful as both were locked.

At the same time, a 15-year-old boy and an unknown offender entered a different residence on the same street through a pet door. Car keys and a mobile phone were stolen before both offenders left.

A short time later, three teenagers and the unknown offender re-entered the residence. One of the offenders allegedly struck a male occupant on the head with a mop handle. All four then fled in the stolen BMW.

The incident was captured on CCTV and reported to police. Following an investigation, three teenagers were arrested and charged with multiple offences, including aggravated burglary, common assault, theft and ride motor vehicle without consent.

One of the 15-year-old boys charged was subject to a good behaviour order and enquiries are continuing to identify the unknown offender.

Detective Acting Inspector Heidi Wright said offenders usually look for unlocked doors and pet doors or windows left open so they can grab what they can and make a quick getaway.

“If an offender can’t see an easy way in, they often won’t try.” Det. Insp. Wright said.

ACT Policing has executed four search warrants in relation to a shooting in Banks earlier last month.

About 12am on Tuesday, 8 July 2025, two men invaded a residence in Banks before shooting a male occupant in the leg.

Following enquiries, officers executed simultaneous search warrants last Thursday morning (24 July 2025) at a residence in Harrison and across three commercial premises in Mitchell.

During the search warrants multiple items were seized including electronic devices, drugs and two vehicles.

No arrests have been made, and the matter remains as an ongoing investigation.

At this time police cannot link a reason for the victim to be targeted, believing that the incident was a case of mistaken identity.

A 51-year-old man will face court today after allegedly stealing more than 1.5 tonnes of copper from construction sites and other locations in the ACT.

In June, police were notified of burglaries at a construction site in Gungahlin where a vehicle, tools, and copper wire were stolen.

Investigations identified the stolen vehicle had attended an address in Florey and when police attempted to speak to the occupants, they observed copper wiring in the backyard.

Police later executed a search warrant at the residence and seized a mobile phone.

Yesterday (Wednesday, 30 July 2025), police attended an address in Bonner to locate a 51-year-old man believed to be responsible for the construction site burglary and theft of the vehicle. He attempted to flee but was caught in the yard of a nearby home.

Following further enquiries, police will allege the man sold more than 1.6 tonnes of stolen copper to a metal recycling centre this year.

He has been charged with two counts of unlawful possession of stolen property, burglary, driving a motor vehicle without consent, and trespass, and is scheduled to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court today (Thursday, 31 July 2025).

A 19-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing his mother at their home in Page.

About 8am yesterday (Wednesday, 30 July 2025), the man allegedly stabbed his mother multiple times with a kitchen knife.

He then attended Belconnen Station to report the incident and was subsequently arrested.

Police and emergency services attended the home, and the woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The teenager has been charged with attempted murder and is expected to face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Thursday, 31 July 2025).
