Five charged with various family violence offences in separate incidents

Five people will face the ACT Magistrates Court today charged with various family violence offences.

A 38-year-old Higgins man has been charged after allegedly sexually assaulting a family member under the age of 10 years old in March last year (2024).

Following a report of the alleged sexual assault in June this year (2025) and a subsequent investigation, police executed a search warrant at a residence in Higgins yesterday (Monday, 8 September 2025).

The man was arrested and has been charged with grooming a young person, aggravated act of indecency and aggravated sexual intercourse with a person under 10 years old.

In another incident, a 36-year-old Lyneham woman was arrested yesterday after allegedly stabbing her former partner in the shoulder with a fork.

She has been charged with aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

About 10:30pm last night (Monday, 8 September 2025), a 19-year-old Richardson man was arrested after allegedly smashing the bedroom window of his former partner and assaulting her friend with a hand saw.

He was charged with aggravated damage property and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Furthermore, a 57-year-old Oaks Estate man was arrested this morning after allegedly grasping and squeezing the throat of a family member and assaulting them last week.

He has been charged with aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm and choking, strangling, suffocating another person.

A 39-year-old Denman Prospect man has also been charged with aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm after allegedly striking his partner on the head multiple times last night (Monday 8 September 2025).

Police seeking witnesses after Monaro Highway road rage incident

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses and dash-cam footage of an alleged road rage incident on the Monaro Highway in Hume that occurred late last month.

About 2:30pm on Friday, 29 August (2025), a white Haval Jolion station wagon, and a white Toyota Hilux dual cab with a motorbike on the back, were travelling south on the Monaro Highway through the roadworks zone between Lanyon Drive and Sheppard Street.

The two vehicles continued interacting with each other while travelling along the highway, before they both presented at Tuggeranong Police Station.

Anyone who witnessed or has dash-cam footage of the Toyota Hilux bearing ACT registration YOD87V, or the Haval Jolion, bearing ACT registration YPQ67K on Friday (29 August 2025)  between 2:35pm and 2:45pm in Hume is urged to come forward.

Caswell Drive speeder caught doing 43km/h over the limit

A 33-year-old Ngunnawal man has been issued a $700 fine and incurred four demerit points after he was caught driving 43km/h over the speed limit yesterday.

About 2:20pm yesterday (Thursday, 4 September 2025), ACT Major Collision Team officers identified a dark grey Kia Stinger sedan that was travelling at 133km/h in a 90km/h zone on Caswell Drive near Aranda.

Officers issued the driver with an infringement notice that included a fine of $700 and four demerit points were incurred.

ACT Policing reminds all drivers that speeding is one of the Fatal Five factors in injury and fatal collisions, and is the cause of a significant portion of all collisions on ACT roads.

Man to face court with multiple driving and drug offences after pursuit

A 29-year-old man will face the ACT Magistrates Court today after allegedly driving dangerously through Narrabundah, Fyshwick and Queanbeyan this morning.

About 12:40am this morning (Thursday, 4 September 2025), police observed a Silver Ford Focus compact car driving above the speed limit on Canberra Avenue in Symonston.

Police followed the vehicle and directed the driver to pull over on Hindmarsh Drive. The driver took off at speed and was seen driving dangerously, including through red lights and on the wrong side of the road into Narrabundah.

Police continued to observe the driver from a distance as he proceeded into Queanbeyan, NSW.

A short time later, the vehicle re-entered the ACT and police initiated a pursuit. The driver continued along Canberra Avenue at about 130km/h in an 80km/h zone where the vehicle allegedly proceeded through a red light, resulting in a minor collision with a Toyota Corolla.

The driver continued driving until he hit several kangaroos crossing the road, causing the man to come to a stop, when police subsequently arrested the man. The man told police that his licence was suspended and that he had methylamphetamine in his pocket, which was later found by police.

The man has been charged with dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, driving while suspended and drug possession.

Man to face court after allegedly evading and injuring police

A 37-year-old Kambah man will face the ACT Magistrates Court today after driving into two police vehicles and injuring two officers in Reid yesterday.

Last month, police responded to a disturbance in Lyneham. Upon arriving, police observed the 37-year-old man entering a vehicle.

Police directed the man to step out, but he then started the vehicle and sped away.

Police later observed the man driving dangerously through North Canberra, including driving on the wrong side of the road and running a red light.

Later the same day police located the vehicle empty and seized the vehicle.

At about 10:45am yesterday (Wednesday, 3 September 2025), police received information that the man, who was subject to a Sentencing Administration Board warrant, was at a residence in Reid.

Upon police arrival, the man got into the driver’s seat of a vehicle. Police attempted to remove the man from the vehicle, he then allegedly reversed into two police vehicles and injured two police officers.

A short time later the man was placed under arrest and was taken to hospital under police guard for treatment for previous injuries.

The two officers were also taken to hospital and were treated for minor injuries.

The man has been charged with multiple offences, including two counts of failing to stop for police, driving at police, dangerous driving, and driving with a suspended licence.

Police seek witnesses to collision in O’Malley

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to a three-vehicle collision in O’Malley last night.

At about 5:40pm on Tuesday (2 September 2025), a red Honda VFR800 motorcycle collided with a white Honda Civic and then a white BMW X3 on Hindmarsh Drive, near Palmer Street in O’Malley.

Police and emergency services attended the scene, and one man was transported to hospital with serious injuries.

ACT Policing’s Major Collision Investigation Team are investigating the circumstances of the collision and urge any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to come forward.

Cocos Keeling Islands teen charged with sexual assault offences

Cocos Keeling Islands Police and ACT Policing Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Team (SACAT) investigators have charged a Cocos Keeling Islands teenage boy with multiple sexual assault offences.

Police have alleged the teen engaged in sexual intercourse with a young person, which goes against the laws in Western Australia.

On Monday (1 September 2025), the teen was arrested on the island after SACAT officers travelled to the island to execute a search warrant.

The offender was charged with three counts of aggravated indecent assault, aggravated sexual penetration without consent and two counts of sexual penetration with a child, with further charges expected to be laid.

The teen appeared before the Children’s Court of Western Australia via video link yesterday (Tuesday, 2 September 2025) and was bailed to leave Cocos Keeling Islands and is due to re-appear before the court in the coming weeks.
