A 22-year-old Dickson man has been arrested for family violence offences following an incident in Dickson yesterday.

At about 10:45am yesterday (Monday, 1 September 2025) police responded to a call from a female at an apartment complex in Dickson. Police attended and located a 22-year-old-man who was given a criminal caution for breach of the peace.

Later that day at around 1:45pm police responded to reports of a woman being assaulted at the Dickson shops. The man allegedly assaulted a woman who was known to him, and left the scene with their baby.

Police located the man and the baby a short time later. The man was arrested and charged with aggravated common assault, contravene a family violence order and chokes, suffocates and strangles another person.

He will face the ACT Magistrates court today (Tuesday, 2 September 2025).

A police training exercise will occur at Exhibition Park in Canberra (EPIC) today (Tuesday, 2 September 2025)

There will be a significant police presence as well as exercise management and support staff.

Emergency vehicles will be entering and leaving the venue and there may be loud bangs or yelling occurring inside EPIC throughout the day.

Local residents and people passing by should not be alarmed and do not need to contact police regarding activities inside EPIC today.

A 49-year-old Symonston man has been charged with grievous bodily harm after allegedly seriously assaulting a man yesterday afternoon.

About 5:30pm yesterday (Monday, 15 September 2025), police received a call from the 49-year-old man stating that another man was lying unconscious at his front door after the pair allegedly got into an altercation.

Police arrived at the residence at the Southside Village Caravan Park in Symonston shortly after and commenced CPR on the man before ACT Ambulance Service arrived and took over his resuscitation.

After some time, ACTAS were able to stabilise him and he was transported to The Canberra Hospital in a critical condition.

Police arrested the 49-year-old man at the scene and he was transported to the ACT Watch House.

Following police investigations, the 49-year-old man was subsequently charged with recklessly inflict grievous bodily harm.

He is due to face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Tuesday, 16 September 2025).

Five drivers were caught for impaired driving and speeding offences last night in separate incidents across Canberra.

About 5:15pm yesterday (Sunday, 14 September 2025), police detected a vehicle travelling in excess of the speed limit on William Hovell Drive, Cook. Police subjected the 38-year-old female driver to a roadside drug test which returned a positive indication to methamphetamine. The driver will face court at a later date for exceeding the speed limit and drug driving.

About 5:20pm yesterday, police conducted a traffic stop on Starke Street, Higgins and subjected a 26-year-old male driver to a roadside alcohol screening test. He returned a reading of 0.284 and his licence was immediately suspended for a period of 90 days. He was released into the care of a family member and will face court at a later date.

About 6:30pm last night, police conducted a traffic stop on Buckley Circuit, Kambah and subjected a 43-year-old male driver to a roadside drug test which returned a positive indication to cannabis and methamphetamine. The driver was taken into custody and later refused a blood test. His licence was immediately suspended for a period of 90 days and will face court at a later date for refusing a blood test and driving a motor vehicle while his right to drive was suspended.

About 9:00pm last night, police conducted a traffic stop on Southern Cross Drive, Holt and subjected a 19-year-old male driver to a roadside drug test which returned a positive indication to cocaine. The driver was released into the care of a family member and will face court at a later date.

About 10:00pm last night, police detected a vehicle travelling 150km/h in an 80km/h zone on Gungahlin Drive, Gungahlin. The vehicle was seized and impounded by police, and the 18-year-old male’s driver licence was immediately suspended for a period of 90 days. He will face court at a later date.

Impaired driving is one of the main causes of serious and fatal collisions on ACT roads. People who drink and drive place other road users, their passengers and themselves at significant risk when they get behind the wheel.

All ACT Policing officers will continue to target those drivers who choose to ignore the well-known laws regarding impaired driving.

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to a ram raid at Kippax Fair in Holt on Saturday.

At around 6:30am Saturday morning (13 September 2025) police attended the shopping centre and discovered a stolen front loader had been driven into the front windows in an attempt to steal an ATM, causing significant damage.

The large metal bollards in front of the shopping centre prevented the vehicle gaining further access into the building and the attempt to steal the ATM was unsuccessful. The offenders then fled the scene.

Police are now investigating the incident.

Businesses and shopping centres are reminded that ATMs are at times targeted by thieves so security should be as strong as possible to deter and prevent such incidents.

A 36-year-old Moncrieff man has been charged with possessing child abuse material following a search warrant yesterday.

After police received information about the transmission of child abuse material through an internet server, police began an investigation and on Friday 12 September a search warrant was conducted at the man’s residence in Moncrieff.

During the search police allegedly located a mobile phone containing a number of images of child abuse material.

The man, who is a registered child sex offender, was subsequently arrested and will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Saturday 13 September) charged with possessing child abuse material.

Note to media: use of term ‘child abuse material’, not ‘child pornography’

Use of the phrase “child pornography” benefits child sex abusers because it:

Indicates legitimacy and compliance on the part of the victim and therefore legality on the part of the abuser; and conjures images of children posing in ‘provocative’ positions, rather than suffering horrific abuse.

Each photograph captures an actual situation where a child has been abused. This is not ‘pornography”.
