CDPP Audit and Risk Committee Charter

The CDPP Audit and Risk Committee has been established in compliance with section 45 of the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 (PGPA Act) and section 17 of the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Rule 2014 (PGPA Rule).

The Audit and Risk Committee plays an important role in supporting the governance of the CDPP, provides independent advice to the Director and assists the Director to discharge the Director’s duties and responsibilities under the PGPA Act.

Statement on Air T intention to purchase Rex

On 21 October 2025, a Sale and Implementation Deed to purchase Regional Express Holdings Limited (Rex) was entered into by US corporation Air T, Inc. (Air T) and the Rex Voluntary Administrators.    

The Australian Government welcomes these announcements, which mark a positive step towards bringing Rex out of voluntary administration.  

The Australian Government has also entered into an agreement with Air T in relation to restructuring Rex’s financing arrangements in connection with the acquisition.

This will allow Rex to keep flying and maintain critical aviation links for regional communities. 

As the sale process led by the Administrators is still underway, the Australian Government will not comment further at this time.

Search warrant sees cash and drugs seized

ACT Policing Detectives from the Major Crime Squad executed a search warrant on Friday (10 October 2025) at a residence in Symonston as part of an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking offences.

During the search, officers seized large quantities of illicit and controlled drugs and $8,650 in cash.

The investigation relates to the supply of illicit prescription drugs within the Canberra region. Police are urging anyone with information about the distribution or sale of these substances to come forward.

The seized drugs are believed to have been sourced from overseas, with their quality and contents unknown. Police remind the public that consuming such substances carries significant health risks.

Anyone who has information about the ongoing supply of illicit prescription drugs in Canberra is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website. Information can be provided anonymously.

Man extradited to face sexual assault and aggravated robbery charges

A 35-year-old man has been extradited from Sydney to face sexual assault and aggravated robbery charges.

In April (2025), police responded to reports that a man had been tied up and robbed at a residence in the ACT.

Police allege that the 35-year-old man drugged a 37-year-old man before binding, gagging and sexually assaulting him multiple times.

The 35-year-old man also allegedly stole numerous items from the residence, worth approximately $84,000.

On Friday (10 October 2025), officers from the Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Team, along with NSW Police, arrested the man on an outstanding ACT arrest warrant at his residence in Rockdale (NSW).

The man was extradited to the ACT and is expected to face the ACT Magistrates Court today, charged with aggravated robbery (in company), forcible confinement, food/drink spiking, and attempted sexual intercourse without consent, sexual intercourse without consent, aggravated sexual assault in the 2nd degree.

Protest activity expected tomorrow

ACT Policing is aware of planned protest activity in the City and Parliament Precinct that will occur tomorrow.

A planned protest march is expected from noon tomorrow (12 October 2025), beginning in the City before moving along London Circuit, then Commonwealth Avenue Bridge and will finish at Parliament House.

Minor traffic disruptions may occur as the march moves from the City to Parliament House. Drivers are asked to consider their route if they do not want to be delayed when driving nearby.

There may be temporary delays in accessing the Floriade precinct however there will be no disruptions to accessing the festival site.

ACT Policing supports the right of people to peacefully protest, however the disruption of business activity or other criminal activity will not be tolerated.

Sixth road fatality recorded for 2025

A 78-year-old Pearce man has become the sixth road fatality for 2025 after a truck collided with him at the Mugga Lane Resource Management Centre last week.

About 2.45pm on Wednesday 1 October 2025, police and ACT Ambulance Service paramedics responded to an injured man that had been hit by a reversing truck and pushed into the rubbish collection area at the resource management centre.

Emergency services treated the man at the scene before he was transported to hospital with life-threating injures. Sadly, he was declared deceased today (Friday, 10 October 2025).

As this location is considered a road related area and is regularly accessible by the public, this matter is being considered a road fatality and sadly brings the ACT road toll for 2025 to six.

ACT Road Policing’s Major Collision Team is investigating the circumstances of the collision, and a report is being prepared for the Coroner.

Man charged with grooming offence

A 61-year-old Latham man has been charged with allegedly grooming a teenage boy.

In 2022, the Latham man allegedly contacted the teen and continued contact with the boy between 2022 and 2024.

In September (2025) the boy made a statement to police, and an investigation was commenced.

Last night (Wednesday, 8 October 2025) the 61-year-old man was arrested and charged with one count of grooming a young person. Search warrants were also executed at the man’s home and on his vehicle with electronic devices seized for digital examination.

He is expected to face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Thursday, 9 October 2025).

Boy charged after stealing more than $21k of alcohol

A 14-year-old boy has been charged with multiple counts of theft after allegedly stealing more than $21,000 worth of alcohol from various liquor stores across Canberra.

Between 24 May and 5 September this year (2025), police allege the boy was involved in 36 alcohol thefts at liquor stores in South Canberra, Kaleen and Franklin.

About 6:20pm last Thursday (2 October 2025), police located the boy at a shopping centre in Tuggeranong and he was placed under arrest.

He has been charged with 18 counts of minor theft and 18 counts of joint commission minor theft.

He faced the ACT Children’s Court on Friday 3 October and was remanded. He will next appear in the ACT Children’s Court on 20 October 2025.

Operation RETAIL launched last week and is continuing this month. The month-long campaign is focusing on deterring anti-social behaviour, reducing retail theft, enhancing public perceptions of safety and improving business safety and security.

ACT Policing will continue to increase patrols of shopping centres, work with loss prevention officers and engage with business owners to address criminal activity occurring in shopping centres.
